I would like to confirm with anyone details about loan repayment. My recruiter told me to have the promissory notes ready when I leave to COT. Are the loans paid in a lump sum when we are in COT? Is that what everyone else is hearing?

A word to the wise regarding loan repayment....

This was my personal experience with the system. Granted it was awhile ago but I could see this happening again.

I went through COT then reported to my assigned base (no NTP). I had been there about two weeks and still hadn't heard anything about my loan repayment. I started asking around and no one knew who I needed to talk to. After being very persistent at the Education office they were able to put me in touch with someone who said "we've been trying to email you for weeks." I never received one email because they had the wrong personal email AND work email. If I hadn't been persistent I could have lost my loan repayment because it is required that you sign the AFIT loan documents within 30 days of arrival to your assigned base.

Unless the process has changed in the past two years here is how it goes:

-AFIT at Wright-Patterson will email you loan paperwork that needs to be filled out and signed by you and your Squadron Commander.

-Get the paperwork in asap since you only have 30 days from your report date to turn it in.

-Once AFIT receives your paperwork and contacts your loan company(ies) AFIT will initiate the payment process. I think it took a little over 30 days for this in my case.

If any of your loans have been consolidated they will need paperwork from your original loans too. Oh, and don't forget that your loan repayment funds will be taxed 28% before they pay any of your loans (% may be more or less now). Either way, Uncle Sam still gets his cut.

Hey all! I've posted on facebook too. I'm getting a little nervous about COT. Stressin about the silly push-ups! :icon_roll I've never had much upper body strength. I've been practicing and working out more, but I'm getting a bit frustrated! I know we females don't have as much upper body strength as males, but seriously!!! Any tips, or anyone else running into difficulties????

And congrats to all else who have been accepted and are headed to COT 11-Jan-2010!!!! Yay!!!!:yeah:

I am a male (waist is 32 inches = max points, obviously have it easy) and I can do 70/minute right now. All I can say is try to build up to it. I used to do 20 at a time and I thought it was tough. I never before but now do situps/pushup daily and I increased the reps by 5-10 every day until I got up to 62.

Make sure you eat to promote muscle development (protein and B/C vitamins). Make sure your arms/triceps/pectoral muscles are tearing/sore after your workout as this indicates muscle tearing/regrowth. All you can do is your best! Their standards are high, but not unreachable!

70 a minute?! i thought i was doing well with my 15! haha. actually if take a small break in the middle of my minute i can hit 21 somewhat easily, but still!

running is my area of concern. i can consistently run a 9 minute mile but i can't maintain my speed for the long haul. and with work and what not i haven't run in a few weeks...this is not good.

I hope I go somewhere warm cause it's hard for me to breathe in cold air :/ Unfortunately I am not running...I was luckily dealt the perfect hand for the physical stuff. I don't think many others will be able to max their push-ups!

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Pediatrics.

Just giving everyone and update. Still waiting to interview with Chief nursing officer, so my packet didn't make it to the Nov. boards like I had hoped. My original recruiter out of Chicago was soooo busy with other applications that mine sort of got put aside and then was passed on to a recruiter in Michigan. I had been trying to work with the one out of Chicago since May!!! Seemed like nothing ever got done when I wanted it to be done. My ISU transcript was lost, so I had to order another one for the recruiter in MI. I had to re-do the nine questions because the layout wasn't right, which I was never told. It has been a very frustrating journey so far.

This new recruiter is awesome. Within 2 weeks of first speaking with him on the phone, I met with him at my home to go over what needed to be done and finally had my questions answered!! So, now just waiting for him to receive my re-ordered ISU transcript and then we can set up my interview. I will no longer be interviewing at Scott, as he would prefer we go to Wright-Patterson in Dayton, OH to interview (which is also where I want to be stationed!!).

I am just hoping we get everything done soon so I can at least make the Dec. 22 deadline. I know my chances are very slim for March COT, but am still hopeful that I may get lucky!! I am not going to NTP, so my chances are a little higher! Hoping that I will get in as a specialist in my field, which also makes my chances a little higher!

So, good luck to all that made it for January COT, wish I was going with you.

Hi All, I will also be attending COT in January... next week Eeek!!! I am too worried about the physical aspect of COT seeing as I absolutely SUCK at push-ups.. I can hardly do two push ups and Ive been doing additional modified to try to bulk up. I am really scared that Im going to fail. I try so hard to the point that my arms get so weak/hurt and give out. Is anyone else in my boat? I hear that Nurses "dont fail" according to my recruiter but I am seriously worried about it.

Hi,

I think by the end of COT, when it's time for our PT test you will be just fine. I have been using this website http://hundredpushups.com/ which Carolinapooh had reccommended and it seems to be working. I printed out the booklet and am going to take it along with me just in case there is time to practice.

Definately keep going with as many modified pushups as you can. Try to do a couple reps and rest for as long as you need in between - then do a couple more. I honestly believe there are a lot of us struggling with pushups but we can all do it!!

Just a quick question for everyone - What day are you leaving for COT? Are you flying or driving? And if you are flying how are you getting from the airport to Maxwell??
