I noticed something similar at Glendale Adventist they are hiring 60 new grads for a home based unit with the opportunity of entry level training and maybe a job.

The exact wording is

"ATTENTION: RN Graduate Nurses!!

New Opportunity for 60 RN graduate nurses at GAMC in a full time position for up to 3 months giving support to Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE), April 2011 to July 2011. Will be home based on a unit with opportunity to participate in entry level patient care when not supporting CPOE on that unit. Positions you well for openings in our internship program with four new units to staff by fourth quarter 2011."

It makes me almost grateful I had to take a medical leave of absense from school thus putting back the start of my bridge program and subsequent graduation

Yeah while your going to school you need to prepare yourself as much as possible to get into the job market. Those that got jobs right away where working per diem CNA jobs at local hospitals that have new grad programs. I applied at Torrance that hired 5 of my classmates and got an almost instant rejection email. I was also 3rd top in the class, so I guess grades didn't matter much.

Get your ACLS, PALS, NRP or whatever certs that are helpful for the field your going to.

Graduating later might not be a good thing. According to several estimates, the recession might last for another 3-4 years thus, there will be even more of a back log of graduates to compete with for jobs. I graduate December 10, and I gotta compete with the Late 09 and early 10 graduates. You need to take it really seriously, I cruised along thinking that I can get a job right away with my grades and being a Veteran, but nope.

So what does this MEAN exactly?? Testing computer software and then in downtime you might be able to practice a foley??? or What? I feel dumb reading this....can someone explain "Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) SuperUser provides front-line end-user support for software application functionality and the related clinical workflow process during CPOE implementation. " Then it says "end-users" are the staff basically.

I feel like this is an insult to our education...cuse my french but I busted my ass to be offered a chance to test computer software and MAYBE get a chance to help out a little...insulting. But...sadly I probably will apply. =/ I cant believe this...wow.

I don't think it's software testing. Rather, I think it's helping the docs and nurses learn how to use the system.

I'm guessing there won't be a lot of clinical-skill opportunities coming along but on the other hand, it is at least a way to master the CPOE and perhaps dazzle somebody with your work ethic, personality, attitude - and ability to navigate the CPOE (something which shouldn't be taken for granted).

It certainly beats flipping burgers or being a greeter at Wally World.

Mine is tomorrow at 2:30. By the way do you know a new grad named "Dee"? She told me that she has a friend that has an interview at Corona tomorrow? I wonder how many people are they interviewing? Does any one else have an interview?

I don't know anyone that works at the hospital. I don't know how many people they are interviewing or or many they are hiring. I will be asking lots of questions tomorrow because I am still unsure of what the position actually entails.

Hopefully I can get more information tomorrow. Good luck! All she told me to bring was my resume.

Honestly I think the hospitals know that the RN new grads are having a hard time and they KNOW they have to do something to keep these new grads in nursing so if the solution is some kind of creative program that keeps more RN's in the field spending less $$ I guess they will.

Better than a kick in the pants I suppose. Now I dont feel so bad that my recent illness has kicked me back another year in graduating
