Health care advances in Cuba

According to the Associated Press as cited in the Post article, "Cuba has made recent advancements in biotechnology and exports its treatments to 40 countries around the world, raking in an estimated $100 million a year. ... In 2004, the U.S. government granted an exception to its economic embargo against Cuba and allowed a California drug company to test three cancer vaccines developed in Havana."

I agree 100% I dont like it when people deride or degrades this great country., i have heard through the grapevine this forum actually discourages debate by banning or limiting posts of people that have alternating viewpoints...for instance, you will see a lot of support for universal healthcare on these forums but relatively little opposition. Reason being because people with conservative viewpoints are censored or banned by the moderators, its a pretty sad thing actually - so much for debate right? so much for freedom of speech? Not so much here....

Not true, at all.

I post against gov't restricted healthcare (and on other conservative issues/POVs) all the time. And you can SEE the number of posts I've managed to rack up.

Another poster here, a political sister, has more than 3 times as many posts as I do. (btw, political sis, my serious new gf has your same first name). She certainly hasn't been censored for her views.

The thing is, the MODS discourage incivility. You CAN debate an issue, no matter what point of view you hold, without being rude. It's the presentation, not the position, that will get mod attn.

I think there is much more support for gov't restricted healthcare in this forum because nurses tend to be more liberal.

That's not always the case, though, and CERTAINLY not the case here.

BTW, MM being a credible spokesperson on the topic of gov't restricted healthcare is like Ann Coulter being the definitive spokesperson on affirmative action. I'm sure she has much to say on the topic. The point is, are her views likely to be credible to anyone not on the far wing? Neither are MM's to anybody but HIS far wing.

Yup . . .Timmy's right! Another conservative chiming in here. I've not been censored ever. (Sheesh - i just looked and I have over 14,000 posts!!)

And regarding battpos' post . . . it WAS sarcasm . . .I don't agree with it but it was funny.

As to MM . . . . I am curious how he treats nurses and docs in this "mock-u-mentory".

i just want to add . . . don't believe everything you hear on the "grapevine". that is called gossip.

by the way, welcome to allnurses. glad to have a passionate person posting in current events.

marla - i agree with you about this subject needing a less controversial figurehead . . . . people will fight about mm and bypass the subject all together.

Hey hey! Reread what I wrote above. I referenced you.

You're kidding, right? Ok, you don't want to be compared to France. How about being compared to China, Sudan, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq? We're in the same group as them when it comes to the number of executions.

As an American citizen I consider it my duty to question the government and not blindly follow wherever they may lead us. Checks and balances.

And what does Taco Bell have to do with the price of tea in China?

There was a significan boycott of Taco Bell by students and others. We did not buy food there until they were willing to pay one cent a pound more for tomatoes and that money had to go toward pay for the workers who worked in the fields. - http://www.ciw-online.org/index.html

I didn't know statistics on executions.

Being pro life I cannot serve on a jury if it may be a death penalty case.

That reminded me of a case in Redding years ago where an employee defecated in the refried beans . . . . seriously.

It has been very difficult for me to eat there ever since.

it is funny that those who speak of the right to speak their mind have no rspect for those who disagree with them...

i have not seen this particular piece but i have seen other stuff by mm and it was not factual, don't believe it takes courage to make a 'documentary' and purport it as fact when it is not

See, that is the reason he has no credibility - so many holes in his other work. I don't trust him.

I like and trust some people on the left . . . . I just don't agree with them.

But MM is just a liar and a pot-stirrer.

And I worry that food workers may not wash their hands!

YUCK!

I guess I don't remember because I refuse to eat at Taco Bell. Way too many sanitary problems at our local one. Thanks for the links.

Those statistics are pretty sad, aren't they? That we could be in the same league as Iran, who held our embassy there captive in 1979. All together I think the six countries I mentioned comprise 91% of the world's executions. This was in a political science book I had. I'll see if I can find a website for you.

Really sad.

I met two nurses who work at a state hospital for the criminally insane.

The medical director will not agree that any child molester has become sane so they are never released (from that facility).

Patients work in the garden, kitchen and laundry. Much of the cleaning is done by patients. They have art, music, crafts, books and exercise.

Some are too sick for such freedom. I was told they live a decent life without the opportunity to harm others.

I know some patients are discharged.
