Contract via Kijiji to work in states for a canadian nurse

World Canada

Published

Hi Friends,

I am a Canadian RPN and my long term plan is to move to states (texas). I was searching for a job couple of days ago and had replied to an add R/T work in states (they hire canadian nurse and give them opportunity to work in states). Now, I am exchanging emails with this lady and she is saying that she will be my recruiter in Canada if I decide to apply for a nursing position within the form, but she refused to meet me. Her explanation was : ''In order to keep your salaries high and less expenses..we handle it via email, phone calls.''

She said that there are many positions to choose from..Once I will be accepted into the company, the company will send me a package with step by step instrcutions, they will call also call me, but she (the lady) will be here as well in Canada, as my liason, for clarification as well, if I need.

She mentioned that its an easy process and she had travelled with this company for many years. Following are things that I have to do: wrote licencing exam, which will be reimbursed by the company. Once I are ready to take a position, I will be intereviewd by phone..by the nursing manager. If the manager of this position feel I will make the perfect fit, she will send me the paperwork to hire me for the contract term..13 to 26 weeks.

Anybody has an idea R/T tis kind of job. But I excited but scared as well..........honestly, I do not want to fall into a trap.................so wondering if anybody has experience with this kind of contracts and jobs.

Thanks in advance................desperately waiting for your replies.............PLease and thank you.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

In order to work in Texas you would have to have a license and a visa.I believe that RPN doesn't qualify for a TN visa. You would have to go the Green Card route. To get a license you have to meet the BON requirements and pass the NCLEX.

I am a fellow Canadian, RN student. Unfortunately as an RPN you would not qualify under NAFTA for a TN visa.

You can still work in the US but it would be the standard visa process and that would take a fair amount of time.

If they are willing to sponsor and jump the hoops then go for it.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Kijiji is NOT a reputable employment site. It's an online flea market. I'd regard any promises made with a very jaundiced eye. Rinks, your sentence structure and use of language suggests that English isn't your first language, and also that you're a "new" Canadian. Couple that with the fact that you're considering taking a job you found on Kijiji and I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track. If these assumptions are true, I think you'll find that it will be very complicated and difficult for you to move to the US and work as a nurse in just about any capacity.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I would be worried about the fact they only want to deal via email and not meet up. As mentioned PN doesn't qualify for a work visa and I am not sure if it will even qualify for a green card and would suggest talking to a immigration consultant/lawyer who has experience in nurses obtaining a visa

Specializes in Home Care.

You didn't state what the fee is for this so -called service.

I hope you've given this woman nothing more than your name.

She has my phone number and email adress. Now, she is asking me for my full name and adress so that she can give me an ID and password to access a secured website for detailed information regarding this job......

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

With no license and no visa you cannot work in the US.I wouldn't advise giving any more information. They may ask for money next.

Specializes in AC, LTC, Community, Northern Nursing.

As previous posters stated RPNs are not covered under NAFTA so you cannot get a TN visa... I would check the name of the company with the BBB and it seems odd to not meet you in person...

Thank you friends

I thought you were working on your bridging degree. Why don't you just wait until you have finished it?
