Considering LNC

This is my first post. I am considering LNC. Has anyone completed the Kaplan course? I need to make a decision today because registration closes at Kaplan today. Any advice or comments about LNC would be appreciated.

I am still considering my options regarding training as well as looking at the job market in my area and marketing outside my area. In another thread on this site, there was discussion about oversaturation of the CLN job market. I know you can market outside your area, but what is the best way to do that? Are you more successful getting cases from small practices or large ones? I realize that large firms have more cases, but what is the general opinion of attorneys of different sized firms toward LCN's? I have spoken to a few attorneys in my area who say you can do the "legal nursing" without getting certification or additional training. But I think this would be a big mistake. It's not the nursing part I'm worried about, but how to put things together in an organized and meaningful way so as to make a difference in a case. I feel that most attorneys aren't going to give you a second chance if you botch it the first time because you don't know how to put the material together or don't know what to look for in the first place regarding legal issues. So I think I need to have my act together before I proceed.

Hello,

Marketing outside your area is done the same way. First, you create a data base of clients. Then, send to them the same thing you would clients in your area. Follow up as you normally would with clients in your area.

The majority of my work is out of area and I conduct business via email, fax, phone, and snail mail.

You are correct, you make a mistake, "botch" the case and you will not be asked to do another.

As for cases from small or large firms, I get them all. Really? I don't care to whom I market; large multi-partner firms or the small firm with one attorney.

Good luck with your decision/s.

Has anyone begun to take the AALNC legal nurse consultant on line course yet? If so, what do you think?

It is my understanding that you have to have been practicing as an LNC before you can undertake the AALNC.

Also you do not need to be a VIP in the Vicki Milazzo course to pass, my friend never saw a scrap of paperwork prior to taking the course and not only did she finish her exam quickly, she passed in the high 80's.

The course is excellent and is taught so well you would be hard pressed to fail.

If you have the money then be a VIP

I think you can take the AALNC online course. But you can't take the AALNC certification test until you have 2000 hour of LNC experience over 3 years. But I believe they are just starting their online course. From what I have read, they just have the first part of it. I would be interested in knowing more about it.

Hey MU/WVUGRAD........I am a WVU grad too!! Have you taken any LNC course yet? If not, which ones are you considering?

Hi henayneiCLNC,

I read your posts regarding the VMI and couln't agree more. You were much better prepared than me but I still managed to do ok with the 6 day seminar inspite of not going through the whole program prior. I see that you are looking for an expert witness, I cannot help you there but it sounds like your marketing techiques got you somr recognition and work. Have you done a case review yet? I am just starting to formulate my business. Hope to get my brochures and cards printed up early next week.Good Luck and would love to hear about your progress

what I **really** like about the home study tools is that I can refer to them when ever I need to refresh something instead of having to depend on my notes alone - I just plug in the DVD and I'm sitting in the seminaqr again getting tips from the Pros!!! :w00t:

Hi,

I just read countrysg's posting & I have the same questions, about the CLNC and LNCC, which one will a lawyer feel is most valid? hoping to hear from anyone, from both sides...

thanks ,

I have yet to have a lawyer bring that up - I state that I am a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant and we go from there.... :) I'm sure he asks me the same questions he would ask a LLNC :) What they want to know do you know what you are talking about, can you do the work and can you do it well, presenting an informative, timely and professional product :)

I chose CLNC not because of what someone I may never meet might think of it but because of what they offered, the information, tools and support they have and what they could do for me - IMHO from there it is up to me what I do with it ;)

hello, scamp789 and welcome to allnurses.com

i totally agree with henayneiclnc. most attorneys do not ask about your formal education as lnc. i introduce my self as legal nurse consultant only and never use other (medical-legal) acronyms. it muddies the water sometimes and only leads to other questions of non-importance.

clnc and lncc are excellent choices and will provide you with the education you need. the rest is up to you - marketing and self-discipline.

good luck and enjoy the site here at allnurses.
