consider applying NCLEX in nevada?

I don't know what Nevada's rules are for international nurses, but given that you meet the requirements, then ATT shouldn't be a problem. But I don't see your point for comparing CA and NV as to where you'll get the ATT easier since CA technically denied your application and you need to meet certain units before they make you eligible for RN licensure.

But yeah, I would look into other states (like Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, etc) for initial licensure.

Hello Andrea,

I would suggest calling the bon of Nevada about their requirements for International Students. I've been doing some research and Nevada and they only require Certification Evaluation. I also graduated in the Philippines just this March. I will be getting my records hopefully next week. A friend of mine suggested not to pass any papers to California because they can hold your papers against you. The problem is my cases don't go with my maternal and child lecture. The lecture was on 2009 and we were not assigned to the DR until my fourth year which was 2011-2012 due to the large population of nursing student in the school. Cases were really hard to get, I think you know what I'm talking about. If you have any updates would you mind contacting me? Let's just think positive! haha

she can help you, i guess she's in charge of the international grad department or something. she will explain to you what you need to do. the process can be overwhelming..and time consuming. the waiting time just kills you. just saying..

I read somewhere on one of the threads at International Forum that there are exceptions to this... like if you worked in the US for a year or something... but i can't find the post anymore... are you here in Nevada or you're just applying for Nevada BON?

No, we all need to take the English Proficiency exam.

A few months ago, a batchmate friend from the previous year of graduation passed her NCLEX in Nevada and got the license! She tried to endorse the NV license to CA just recently and she received the very sad letter from CA BON...denied, due to the concurrency problem. She had never applied into CA before.

She said that the job market for RN nurses in NV is tougher than CA, no one is hiring new grads at all, maybe partly due to having a foreign college on her resume, but she knows that's really not it as she met a few other US new BSN grads there and they are still looking for almost a year now. If you are a RN with at least a year or two of experience you might have a chance but it's still very hard as there was one big hospital that is letting go of their nursing people, a lot of them due to the bad economy. She will have to go to plan B and look for work at nursing homes if nothing happens in the next 6 months, but like me, she does not want to work with adults but rather with the pediatric kids.

Don't forget guys, that the hospitals in most states consider us new grads, if we got our degree within the first year. So it's even tougher for those who graduated beyond that 1st year.

it's really that tough? wow. I was looking up some hospitals hiring nurses in the internet. Seems like there are job openings but the problem is they prefer nurses that have 2+ years experience.

Yes, it's pretty tough out there. She tried going thru an agency, but they were not much help, as you mentioned they need nurses with some experience.

The agency was mostly for those wanting to work in nursing homes, home health care or private places. They were mostly for adult care, she wanted pediatrics or if adult, in a regular hospital.

Have you read this person's topic about new grads, international new grads and the job market?

CLICK on her topics, but looked at her last block comments, it brings good light to think about and good information. But do read the FIRST block part too.

hey steppybay,

I was just wondering if you've applied for the board yet? I have a question. You know how there are steps we have to follow in applying and sending the requirements, do we have to follow the exact steps or can one requirement be first than the other. For example can the Nursing board receive my TOEFL results and CES even though they haven't received my application form yet. I've read somewhere that some steps can vary but some should be followed.

Depends on the state, for example Florida requires CES done first and they receive it before your application to them is sent. If you can and it doesn't state anything on the BON website do the application a month or 2 after you start the CES
