Connecticut State Community College (CT State) Fall 2024

Published

Hello everyone I have applied to the NVCC nursing program for the 2024 fall. Im wondering if my stats are any good or if I should be worried. Whats everyone' stats too if I may ask.

Nursing GPA 3.53

TEAS 92.7

A&P 1 A-

Good news! I received this email from the credit evaluation coordinator in regards to the University of Phoenix Micro class:

Good morning,

How are you? CT State Community College will accept the Microbiology course from University Phoenix. Once you complete the course please have the official transcript from University Phoenix listing the grade for Microbiology course sent to [email protected]

The class is $1,592.00 Which is a lot but for someone like myself who needs both Chem and Micro this is definitely the best option. It's a 7 week course with the lab, completely online.

I got accepted to Norwalk but I took all of my prerequisites in undergrad/at other schools, so I've never actually taken a course at NCC, so I don't have a NCC email. The acceptance document says info on registration would be sent to our college email, but I assumed they'd send it to my regular gmail account that I used to apply since I don't have a college email, but I haven't gotten anything. I guess I should contact them unless there's a different way to register?

Good to know! Thanks so much for providing all of this information. Yeah in your case that seems like a no brainer since it doesn't require a pre-req. I might just suck it up and take the Summer micro at capital, my only problem with it is that the lab section meets 9-12 Tuesday and Thursday, which isn't ideal because I work full time and im waitlisted for the 5:30 class at middlesex

I would assume it would get send to your regular email. Just to be safe I would reach out to the Nursing director at NCC and ask her to put you in contact with a nursing advisor at NCC. That way you have an advisor who can help you out when you have questions.

So I'm starting at TRCC in the fall and got an email saying "If you have not taken A&P II or Mirco, I encourage you to consider deferring your entry into the program to the Spring semester.” I REALLY don't want to defer my entry. I've already taken A&P 1 & 2. Is it necessary to take micro before the fall? Because for the nursing semester template it says that micro is usually taken 2nd semester? I'm confused and didn't know that this would have been a requirement or I would have taken this before I applied.

Yeah another user was talking about the same thing. I really don't understand why they are recommending this because yeah like you said in the semester outline it suggests you take it with the nursing class. If this was the case they should have made microbio an admissions requirement like chemistry used to be. There are some Summer sections still open for microbio or you can try taking it completely online at the university of Pheonix. I also wonder if Micro is a class thats offered during Winter session?

I really do not understand why they don't make both Chem and Micro prerequisites for the program if they feel so strongly about them being completed before the program starts!

Has anyone here registered for classes at Norwalk yet? If so, what does the class schedule look like? Still waiting to get an email about registration

I haven't registered yet but from what I know class is usually two days a week and one day of clinical. From the schedule it seems like class is going to be Monday and Tuesday, and the clinical day is going to another day in the week that is randomly assigned to everyone.

I emailed the Norwalk program director and he said a nursing faculty advisor will reach out to each of us about registration! Back in the fall when I was researching this program, I had an info session over the phone with someone who told me that at Norwalk at least, the class day is usually Tuesdays from around 8 am - 3 pm, and there is a lab that happens on another day, but only goes on for (I think but don't quote me on this!) the first 6 weeks of the semester, and then of course the clinical placement, which I believe I was told could be at any time, including evenings or weekends. I'm hoping I can get my clinical on an evening or weekend so I can keep as many of my work hours as possible!

This is probably a stupid question, but do we start clinicals right away? Or is that something that we start our 2nd year?

I'm pretty sure we start them first semester! Now I can't remember exactly what they said during my phone info session, but I think it was either was either after the lab ends (so 6 weeks into 1st semester) or just 2-3 weeks in. I think it was the former... which would be nice because I think for many of us, this would mean there isn't overlap of lab and clinical, so there would never be a time when we have to be in person for nursing school obligations any more than 2 days per week
