UCONN CEIN/BS 2018

U.S.A. Connecticut

Hi Everyone!

I saw many other threads from the previous years so I figured I would start a new one for the 2018 cycle. I recently got accepted after applying for the February 17th deadline to my first choice, Avery Point. I just wanted to connect with everyone else that is interested in this program or anyone that is going to be in this program!

I'm really excited to hear from you all and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back or applying for the other deadlines! :)

Hi Eglute,

Thanks for offering to ask questions on our behalf! I got into the Storrs campus and I think most of my questions are specific to location and such. I am worried about whether I'd be able to handle the pace of a 12 month program. I'm sure they will cover it, but if not can you ask them what a typical week's schedule is like for a student in the program?

And just a general question for people on this board familiar with the area -- will I have to have a car to get around and get to clinicals if I'm at the Storrs campus?

I was wondering if anyone could let me know where they took their prerequisite classes. I need to take A&P 1 and 2, Genetics and Chem. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

They covered a lot.

The schedule is pretty busy. The class is only one day, but it's 8:30 - 6:00 PM with 30 min break. Prep recommendation is 2h per credit weekly. For Storrs, she said, is usually on Mondays, AP - Fridays. Clinical (at the sites plus lab) 21h. It can be any day and either morning shift or evening so from 6:30 to 00:00 (two or three shifts per week). They try to place students close to their home but it says the travel maybe 75 mi. She mentioned that they look into special cases sometimes, as well, they get all 4 campus together at several occasions so people could get to know each other and carpool etc.

Most important, they are changing up some things with the application and requirements. FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT APPLY YET, CONTINUE WITH PREREQS BUT NOT THE REST. They are trying new program and most likely all documents will be scanned in instead mailing it. I have one reference letter already and she said most likely I will have to ask the person to scan it in :( It makes me little bit upset because I feel it's not fair to change the application process in the middle of the year.

They will be changing prerequisites too but it will not apply for those who apply for 2018.

They are changing vaccinations requirements too. It will be posted.

The price should remain similar and we can apply for financial aid. The books ~$1900 and most will be spent at the beginning.

Please ask questions as I am little bit tired so could be I missed something.

Prerequisites are listed on their site with codes that they accept. I took mine in community college close to me. Some classes must have lab so you can't do it online.

For all questions they advice to call or email Dorine Nagy 860 486 1937 [email protected]

Thanks so much, Eglute! The schedule sounds intense as do the clinicals. I think it's good they're trying to move towards paperless, but I agree with you that it seems weird to be doing it mid-application cycle. I'm not sure why they don't just set up a system like a lot of other schools have where you fill out the application online and then attach word or pdf files of your supporting materials with a section for recommenders to go online and submit their letters for you. They're a major public university so you'd think their IT dept could manage to set up something like that.

I'm curious as to how they will change their pre-req requirements (not that it will affect me personally). They're the only school I came across that required Genetics and one of the very few that required Research Methods. I did most of my pre-reqs at my local public university -- like UConn it is a large public school. I had to take Genetics at a community college one town away bc it is a pre-med course at my local uni not pre-nursing so had I wanted to take it there, I would've had to take two additional chem (Biochem & Organic Chem) pre-reqs before I could even try to enroll in Genetics. All my Pre-nursing classmates thought it was weird that a BSN program would require Genetics. I didn't do any of my pre-reqs online because most schools I applied to said that, while they accept online course work for some pre-reqs, they prefer in person classes.

I believe she said they are considering research and thinking to add time frame to some others.

I agree regarding prerequisites. Every school is so different. But it could be because of curriculum. We will be doing some research and higher level statistics which will give us 6 credits towards masters. I am not sure why we need this but those things cant be done without grad level background.

I declined my spot at the Waterbury campus and will attend a different program in Massachusetts. Good luck to all whom are waiting to hear. In regards to prerequisites: I took all mine at CT Community Colleges, which are so much more affordable and comparable to other options. As they meet the requirements for many area Accelerated Nursing Programs, this is an indication of the quality of the courses.

I just found they have clinical sites on their site,,,it's everywhere! Clinical Site Partners | School of Nursing

Application still down :(

I declined my spot at the Storrs campus. When I applied I thought I could do a 12 month program but after a lot of soul-searching and talking with other nursing students and my advisors, I think a 12 month program is probably just too accelerated for me. Very sad to decline because I love the school (Go Huskies!) and the nursing program is great, but I'm sure my spot will go to a great candidate.

Hi,

I am planning to apply for June 30 deadline for AP location. I am currently finishing A&P 2 and will have Genetics left.

Did anyone took this class online at QVCC? Am currently at TRCC but they don't offer this class and I have to transfer :(

Can you guys get back after you complete your Financial aid? Money is my biggest concern and if I am correct student loans will not pay whole thing and we don't really qualify for financial aid. I just would like to know how helpful financial advisers are with this.

Good luck to those who still waiting and any advice with applications will be appreciated!

Looking at this morning was thinking of taking it online at Capital over the Summer.

Curious how FASFA will be for the Accelerated Program.

Hey everyone! Just curious for those of you who have sent in your acceptance of admission...have you received an email with your student ID number yet? Our acceptance letter said that would be the next step so we can send a deposit in and I haven't heard anything. Wasn't sure if that's where everyone else was at...

I have not received an email with my student ID number yet! Still waiting! Starting to worry they didn't get my letter. I sent it immediately

I was worried about that too, but I had called UConn on the Friday before the acceptance of admission was due to be sent in, and the woman confirmed she received my letter and told me we would be receiving an email with further communication. Still nothing yet though! I'm thinking about calling again before the end of the week.
