I seem to be in a predicament and If anyone out there is reading this I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
I've been working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for almost 3 years in July. Last year during my 2nd year evaluation, my boss approached me with a different kind of "raise". He said every 3 months I would meet with him and we could discuss my $3 raise based on the following stipulations. A) Our Human Resource recruiter would be calling a patient at random every week and rating me on various scales on my performance etc with their child during that visit B) The human resource recruiter would keep a journal jotting down my every move, for example "3:30 pm, the NP is sitting on her desk, or 4:00pm, the NP is talking to the medical assistants", all of this was done in hope that I would focus more on my work and do less talking/texting.
(side note: I see about 30 kids a day average, fluent in Spanish, and have great respect for my medical assistants, so yes I do talk to them and have developed a rapport, but never has it come in the way of seeing my patients for the day)
At the 1st 3 month evaluation I just did not feel right having someone watch my every move, and I realized now that it all seems subjective. I calculate medication dosages, check up on ICD 10 codes on an application, and constantly am using medscape, all of this which is done on my phone. So it seems like I'm being set up for failure, if, for my unlucky chance my HR sees me on my phone she is going to think I'm doing non-work related things. I'm coming up on my 2nd, three month evaluation and I want to bring this is up to my boss and tell him it needs to stop. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells at clinic that I consider my home after all these years.
This raise was never really a raise and more just a bonus that he gets to control, so I'm still getting paid the same hourly wage that a fresh NP with no Spanish skills is making. I just wanted to get advice on how to approach this to my boss and what to say without angering him. I don't want to loose my job, I love the kids I see daily at work and don't want to jeopardize anything but only I can fight for myself.
So please, if you have any tips, etc I would fully appreciate it, since I have to talk to him next Tuesday. *eek*
A NP I work with in our outpatient clinic gets paid 15k a month. She just started with only one year of experience as a RN. You're being low-balled. In California, you can get paid 100/hr per diem if you like. Don't waste your time with being micromanaged. You have more than enough experience.
Oops, It should have said, CME's standard is $1500 with 5 days paid for CME, the $1500 is to pay for the conference fees, hotel, travel/airfaire, meals. Since you are part time are you a W-2 employee or at you 1099 Independent contractor. Also, there is a quote button on bottom right of each response, that way we know who you are responding to. So Glad to hear you got your resume out there. Keep us posted. Still I am confused a bit about your salary and the $3.00 per hour increase if you meet the criteria, So it will raise you to $56 per hour for the next 3 months, then will it go to $59 per hour for the following 3 months????? OR-???Also consider finding another part time job. I currently have 4 part time jobs, no I did not plan it, just happened. See what is out there. Is your specialty Pediatric NP of Family NP?
this is to @sailornurse- I keep pressing the reply button but it doesn't seem to respond to just that one person but to everyone as a whole..maybe a glitch? I'm full time actually, 40 hours a week. So I get $53/hour and this tuesday HR calculates all the hours worked only by $3 and that's my additionals "raise" for that quarter. It's always $3, it never goes up higher than that.
I will let everyone know how it goes on Tuesday as far as talking to my boss, hope he opens up his heart and understands where I'm coming from. I'm strictly a Pediatric NP.
this tuesday will already be 6 months, and I have done everything they have asked, pretty much I isolate myself and try my best to not be a bother, which is unfortunate. I'm asking him this Tuesday to stop this because it just isn't right.
I can't imagine why you didn't tell him immediately that you use your phone for work matters all the time, not personal stuff.
Go work somewhere else if you can find a better deal and stop yakking with staff if you know that bothers your boss. And always tell somebody where you are going to be.

Next to the reply button, there is a quote button - click that and it lets you do a "reply" but it also quotes the post of the person you are responding to!
I would simply ask your boss to discuss the "negatives" in your evaluation and if he mentions being ont he phone, explain to him and show him how you are using it for work related matters. If he still has an issue with it after you explain, then your only choice is to use the computer instead.
You are in an odd situation that ive never seen before, I would think it costs more to monitor you all day than it would cost to just give you the raises!

I don't see why he would want to downsize since just this one clinic I work at we see about 300 kids daily between all the providers and are open everyday, weekends and holidays (for the one provider who wants to work it). I'm the only fluent Spanish speaking Practitioner in that clinic besides my boss, and I close the clinic every Thursday from 12-9pm. We just had another NP leave and he desperately found someone to cover that office, so trying to find a reason to fire me wouldn't be in his best interest...I hope..
