Confused whether to take California, Vermont or New Mexico NCLEX

Hello. I was advised by ms Suzanne to apply directly to New Jersey since that is the state that I eventuially want to work. But I'm also open to work in other state. However, others(friends) advised me to take the California board or New Mexico instead since it will take a longer time to process my application for New Jersey since they are still requiring the CES before I apply for NCLEX in New Jersey. As much as possible, I want to get it over and done with with my NCLEX exam. What do you think? Is it ok if I apply for California state board since I already have the application card and fingerprint card for California or take New Mexico? Is it more beneficial if I apply in New Mexico since it belongs to compact state or it doesn't matter if I apply on any state?Please advise......

compact is of no use as you are not a resident of the state. Even if you go the route of another BON and then end up in NJ you still need CES, with retrogression you have time. Think about where you are wanting to work and looking for employer as that will be the deciding factor I feel regarding BON

Thank you for your reply. I agree that if I apply In New Jersey even if I passed NCLEX of other state, they will still require CES. However, I was thinking, at least I'm finished with the exam which I'm planning to take in August together with my friends. I'm planning to take it in August in Hongkong so that I have a companion , otherwise I will have to take the exam in Hongkong all by myself. This is the reason why I am in a hurry to take it this August. Do you think it is unwise that I take the California Board/New Mexico or not?

go to the state where you want to practice your skills..

i chose vermont because that's where i want to live and work

i have relatives in ca, nj and ny but still i chose vermont :roll

This is only February, you can easily have everything done for NJ if you only get started with it. If that is where you wish to work, then that is where you should apply to.

And we do not know yet when the center will open in Manila for the NCLEX exam.

It can take you much longer to endorse, and many employers are now wishing to see a license for the state where you wish to work because they know that it takes longer to endorse in many cases. Your choice as to what to do.

I wonder how many could be accommodated in the planned Philippine Test site everyday...I hope they'd make it bigger than the one in Hong Kong to accommodate more because right now I believe some people with(from the Philippines) are having a difficulty in HK exam scheduling. This is very important especially for those whose ATTs are only valid for 90 days. If not bigger, then at least "more sites" like the setup in the USA where in one state, there are lots of test centers.

Please read on here as reciprocity has been discussed and does not exist. You have to endorse your license to the new state. Problem will be whether you have SSN or not as that will affect you endorsing. Has been mentioned before on what to do will try and find the thread with info for you.

As stated above, there is no such thing as reciprocity. And the other issue is that you do not have a license to endorse. You will need to go thru the License By Examination route for any other state and then have CA forward your passing results to the new state. You will also be required to meet any of the requirements such as having the CES completed, or even the language requirement. You did not mention the state but several of them on the East Coast have language requirements also that need to be completed before they will issue a license there.

You need to take care of the application as you will be the one applying for it. Same way that you did it for CA. You may get reimbursed for it, or they may pay for it up front, but it is your responsibility to take care of it. Depending on the state, it can be six months or longer to endorse if you need to go thru another process first.

Thank you again for the prompt response. It seems I really have no choice but to go straight ahead with my new Jersey application. I had this doubts because I really don't know how to go about applying in New Jersey. I hope someone out there can guide me on how to go about it step by step. I have already downloaded the application for CEs.

Have you visited NJ's website already? Suggest you start there. Instructions for foreign-educated nurses are in there as well as you have to download the application forms there. http://www.ncsbn.org

anyone know how much is the fee for the endorsement? or how can i apply for it? i've heard that taking vermont then get a reciprocity to california is more convenient than applying straight to california, but i read here that there's no existing "reciprocity" here.. what do you suggests? thanks.. it will help me a lot ^_^
