It seems like no one knows the answers to my questions! I got all my transcripts sent to Gateway and went down there today with every single thing I needed. She ("she" being one of the advisors for the nursing program) told me I needed to contact the ADON of the program to see if there was availability for fall. She told me she doesn't think there is availability. She could not answer me if my app went into a system with my preferences taken into account like for all the people starting out in block one. And she also couldn't answer me this, if I put my app in now, and I don't get a spot for fall does this still keep me in the standing for Jan07??!!!
I just don't get it, I thought I put one app in at Gateway, with preferences of where I will go if I don't get in there, and my app is good until I get placed???
She didn't even end up taking my app and all my paperwork...telling me it's no use to turn it in until I contact the ADON of the program and find out if there's any space for the fall? Well, even if there *isn't* space for the fall, wouldn't I be put on a waiting list anyway?
Do I have to turn in apps at each individual school I'm willing to go to?
And does anyone ever answer their darn phones or return phone calls in advisement? Geesh. I feel like I called so many people today, at tons of the different schools, and have heard from no one!
Rebecca (who is also getting the run around at Estrella where I'm supposed to have priority, but none of the nursing advisors ever seems to be at work!)

If you don't have your heart set on Gateway, call Phoenix College. They are there Monday-Thursday. Right now the nursing advisor is taking appointments (usually it's on a walk-in basis) but she'll be helpful. I'd count on that. They don't give you the feeling that you're just a "number". If you need further help, they'll direct you. If the advisor doesn't get you the info you need, go to the nursing building and talk to Irene - she's the department chair. She should be able to give you some answers.

Just spoke with someone named Debby at Phx College. I'm really willing to go anywhere! She told me she doesn't see any spaces open for the fall, *maybe* one but they won't know that till the end of the summer. Ugh! I had originally thought it would be easy to get in at block 3 but now I'm having had two people tell me "nope, not here!"
I do have an in at Estrella's new LPN to RN program starting in the fall. Which sounds great but I'm the only person to officially sign up with everything completed (net, hesi, prereqs, etc). Now I'm worried if I'm the ONLY one, if no one else signs up, will they even have a program this fall?!
Just freaking out. Thanks for hearing the vent.
Rebecca
That's Debi, the nursing advisor. She's helpful. Good luck to you getting a seat somewhere. There's gotta be ONE....
Thanx.
I'll be making calls into other schools tomorrow for info while I'm on my break since I have to work. Its so hard trying to sort all this out while working FT 3days/week!
Anyway, I thought that others had gotten into advance placement easily through Glendale, so I'll try there. I also here the scottsdale program and mesa-boswell program seem to have a lot drop in block 1 and 2. Which could mean free seats for block 3.
If anyone has any info, tips, advice, I'd love to hear it.
Again, thanx for letting me vent.

Hi Rebecca,
I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this.....I think you have the right plan...I have heard the same thing about Boswell and SCC so you may get some good answers when you call there.....Have you thought about CGCC, it may be too far for you but I heard they lost a couple of students as well.....
Advanced placement may get a little tougher now. MCC just rolled out their Paramedic-RN program. Those students will attend one summer session and then get placed into Block 3 in the Fall.....
Do all those paramedic-RN folks have to have their pre-reqs, hesi and net completed also? If so, I say the spots are fair game. But if they don't have to have anything and can get *my* spot in block 3 after I got a 1044 on the HESI, and scored through the roof on the NET, I'll be so mad!!!
I talked to the DON of the gateway program today and feel much better. She made my outlook a lot better and told me she has more info than the advisor I saw the other day and that there *are* spots.
I'm still wondering if the new Estrella program is ever going to get anyone signing up besides me?! So weird, everywhere has waitlists, and this new program has no apps in except for mine!
The Paramedics do have to meet all of the same requirements...here's a link to their newsletter.....

As for the Estrella program....If it is approved and they have everything set up I can't believe that they won't launch the program this fall...Who knows, maybe some of the paramedics will be placed there? I can't imagine that they will all be placed at MCC due to clinical restraints.....
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I am glad there is a spot for you at Gateway! Really, I had an easy time getting into Glendale in block 3. The Gateway nursing program has a really good reputation. Let us know how you make out.

Rebecca,
Im had problems with Gateway and SCC, they were both very rude to me. The lady @ gateway didn't know anything. I tried to explain that I live in Iowa, I'll be done in Dec w/my LPN and plan on mving out to AZ and she still couldnt or wouldn't give me any info. You sound like you got further then I did, all she would do is take my name and add and say she would mail me a packet. Good Luck
Well, how about an update with how I made out???
I started the brand new LPN to RN program at Estrella Mountain this week. So far it seems pretty organized and good even though this is the first class. I think that's because our director is so great, and the instructors are experienced nursing instructors, masters prepared also.
We are the very first school going into Banner Estrella too, which is pretty exciting. Today they came in and oriented us to their computer charting system, it looks amazing.
I don't know how this is going to play out thought. I (eeek!) recently found out I am pg with #3. The problem is not going to be lack of support, as my husband will be able to take paternity leave and my mom will come up those last 5w of school to help with this new baby....but I'm probably going to be a walking zombie and raving lunatic for the whole month of April. So far my instructors and the DON know my situation and the nursing handbook states they will give me "reasonable accomidations" right around delivery. I know how insane I am for continuing that block 4, but I figure, I'm sure it's been done before and I'd hate to not finish just because of one month. So here goes nothing!!!
