Conestoga college RPN 2016 waterloo and Doon campuses

Published

Hi everyone, first time poster long time lurker lol. Congrats to everyone accepted to their programs! I've been offered acceptance to conestoga college rpn for September 2016 start for both Doon and waterloo campuses but was wondering if anyone had experience at the newer waterloo facility?

I've toured Doon and know others who had great things to say but can find little information on schlegel village besides the colleges program booklet and some news articles. It looks like a great facility and is an accelerated program but I'm not sure if long term care will be right for me. I would like to bridge into a bscn afterwards. If anyone has attended or has experience with the waterloo campus and could offer advice I would really appreciate it! Ty :)

I've never been to the Waterloo campus, but by attending the program there you are not confined to only doing placements and/or working in long term care. You'll still do hospital placements and can work anywhere RPNs work after graduating.

Ok great, thank you for the feedback. :) Just wanted to make sure I would have opportunities in different areas.

Hi rpnhopeful2016,

I too was accepted to Conestoga for September 2016, Doon Campus. Let's keep in touch, regardless what campus you end up accepting your offer to, and we can share experiences/offer moral support throughout...all the best! :)

Congratulations on your acceptance :) Sounds good, I'm sure there are a few of us around who will be attending too.

Thanks so much, cheers!

Why did you think you would have to work in long term care?

Hi Lori, since it's described as taught in a long term care facility as a "living classroom" I was unsure if placements would be done there as well instead of off site. The way I interpreted the information was it led to a focus working in that area. That's why I was looking for some clarification/input and glad to get feedback.

No RPN program would only qualify you to only work LTC.

Ah okay makes sense, thank you for the clarification.

Hi there ! My name is Donna and I was also accepted into RPN for waterloo campus for September 2016! If you find any info I would love to hear about it! I also want to bridge later too into RN. Congrats!

Check out Nipissing....they have a bridge program where a working RPN in a partnered facility with NU, completes classes either online, or at work! Just google Nipissing U RPN bridging program....it's awesome to be able to work full time gaining real experience and a paycheque, and study at the same time!
