I had a child today complaining of stomachache. As per usual, I direct him to "try to go to the bathroom." He stepped into the bathroom and closed the door. After about 4 minutes of complete silence from inside, he re-opened it and asked "why am I in the bathroom?"
"Try to use the toilet and see if it will make your stomach feel better." This time I was much more specific! And shortly thereafter heard the toilet being used.

I had to re-read this a few times, but once I got it I literally spit out my water.
As far as self-diagnosing goes . . . had a 3rd grader who rarely comes in, walked in the other day and said "my tonsils are swollen!" I ask who told him that, was it a doctor? Aaaaand he promptly burst into tears. Goodness, that was unexpected!

Unexpected indeed! Sounds like he might have had a bad day...or did his throat hurt that much?
Though I will admit when I worked with the smaller kids, tears were typical and stopped as quick as they started. When the HS kids come in in tears...but that is a different topic :).
