Concerned about Excelsior across the US!

I mean what is excelsior going to do about the requirements that all of these States are requiring of us? Is it going to get to the point where we will be only able to practice in 35 states. This really worry's me! I mean if there is a clinical portion that needs to be done through excelsior I would do it, so that I know I would be able to practice in other state's. I think they need to make some type of clinical portion available in the state that you want to take your boards in or transfer your license too. I feel as though other state's might start following suit with CA, and Maryland.

I feel the same way, I feel a little lucky because I'm in the state of the college's origin. But, I really feel states are going to follow the wagon, especially because of the lack of clinical experience for some who graduate.

It seems everytime I tell anyone about doing EC, the first questions is always about clinicals. I know a few people who are very skeptical of doing a school that does not have clinicals especially non nurses.

I don't care about them. Should I move to California I'll be in trouble but I really don't see that happening.

My clinicals as an LPN stank, and I get clinical experience every workday.

Ditto that. But, I had a really good clinical experience in LPN school. But you know what, nothing compares to on the job experience.

It's a shame what is happening in the different states, one by one, when you consider that Excelsior is the only viable option for many prospective nurses. When states get rid of Excelsior as an option or place restriction after restriction, they would do well to open up educational opportunities in their states. But of course, this doesn't happen. Somebody in these states is bringing this about because there is some reward for doing so, because the whole idea makes no sense whatsoever and their arguments don't hold water.

Very rarely do states make any of this retroactive. They usualy start from a specific point. I know excelsior grads who have licenses in all those states that have issues now and they are working just fine. SO if your going to do it, just get it done now.

I have to agree with everybody in this post.....But I know a nurse who graduated from Excelsior when it was Known as Reagents College....and she was one of the best nurses where I worked, very knowlegable in her field...I'm one of those who lives in California and would jump at the chance to get into Excelsior...I don't know how most of the people on this board feel but I'd like to start a petition an online "petition" on this board asking them if they (Excelsior) would do something so that way all states would reconsider their clinical curriculum and allow Excelsior grads...When I spoke to someone from the college, they said they were working very hard at trying to get California and other states back.....I don't know how to start a petition on here....so if someone wants to do it, then please someone do it, and each one of that signs it, can also post concerns on the petition....then once we get a certain amount, we can forward the petition and a link to this board to them....

Excelsior fought the California decision tooth and nail to no avail, asking for the support of current CA students and anyone they might be able to recruit to the cause.

Besides members of this board, another source of potential petition signers would be everyone languishing on waiting lists or those who have never been able to enter regular programs. Perhaps individuals could post petitions at nursing schools. Letters to the editors of newspapers could alert the general public to the existence of these petitions.

Yup, I read plenty of articles about Excelsior fighting with "the golden state" regarding this....but I would like to see a petition started here on the board not just for us California students who want admission into Excelsior but also other students from other states who have the same desire....I'm not so sure about starting petitions at other schools....the only reason why I'd be against this is because "why, would other schools want us to have access to Excelsior?"...Their goal is to have the nursing students apply to "their" school...I think if we pass this petition and website to other students from other nursing schools via email or something, it would be better....that way we can leave the other schools out of it....Maybe if Excelsior sees that students really want this school welcomed in their state, that might push them to work harder....

Excelsior isn't remotely the problem.

Excelsior isn't remotely the problem.

Not the whole problem, but part of the problem....It's Excelsior (and us students) that want the school to be accepted by the States BON...Apparently the clinical portion is the problem with California...not sure what it is in the other states that want Excelsior accepted.....If they restructured the program to be accepted by all states, that might solve the problem...If the states that have rejected see that Excelsior is going to improve (to satisfy the particular states standards) their clinical portion or what portion that is in question, they might overturn their ruling and except Excelsior as a nursing program......

Why should I have to do clinicals because your BON doesn't accept Excelsior?

As has been said over and over again, Excelsior turns out fine nurses already.

California is the probelm. The one in 50 is wrong, not the other 49.
