What can I do? I am completely unhappy with the school I am attending for the LPN program. They are very disorganized, unprepared for lectures, don't prepare us well for clinical, change to course outline a week before a test! Expect us to self teach a majority of the material... Is it my school choice or my field choice? I am seriously considering dropping out/transferring. I can't take the lack of effort on the school's part. Any advise? anyone in a similar situation?

Since this is a common complaint, I would just stick it out and get what I came there for. Graduating from the school enables you to sit for the boards and get your license. You will do a lot of learning on the job anyway, so just get through it. If you transfer, you may find that you have gone through a lot of trouble only to find the same conditions elsewhere.
That is exactly why I am venting. If it seems a lot of people have the same complaints, I will know it's not just the school I chose. But I am very unhappy and cannot wait to move on from here. 12 months to go...

It's pretty much the same at my school. The 'teacher' reads the book to us somewhat highlighting the most important parts but we have a ton of work to do on our own. I think it's the same all over. Hang in there

I feel your pain!!! I swear my fellow students and I just had this discussion the other day. It is sooo frustrating; I come prepared to class, shouldn't they? Oh yeah, and if I have to hear the words, "look that up on your own because that is testable material", I just might puke. (Not that I'm apposed to looking things up, it is just a little frustrating when you are going through the outline and the teacher tells you a lot of her info is wrong, so just look it up on your own-urghh).

Sounds a lot like my school. Thankfully, I am almost done I just have 9 more weeks left. It is very stressful, but it has forced my class to learn how to work together as a team. It has made us a VERY tight group. I won't lie to you. It has been hell, but we have come through with a greater understanding of what we are really capable of. We have all learned how to "roll with the punches" and "go with the flow". We have been told since the beginning that we need to learn to be flexible. We joke that if we get any more flexible then we will be able to kiss our own butts buy the time we graduate.

Sounds like the LVN school I went to. I think it is a common problem regardless to geographical location.

My program is similar. I do think, however, in some twisted way the LPN/LVN programs are MEANT to be so compulsive and subject to change, because that is exactly what it's going to be like when we are nurses. Most of the time things will change from moment to moment, be it the status of your patient or someone calling in sick, so you getting put on the spot to cover 'til someone can replace you.
I think it helps to build character, too, to be able to cope with sudden changes. Like other posters have suggested, just stick it out. Completing the program enables you to sit for your boards, and that's the REAL goal. Read ahead, don't depend on lecture or powerpoint to guide you. LOVE THAT TEXTBOOK!
