Completely Unhappy With The School I Chose
Thank you everyone for feeling my pain. BUT I am so disappointed to know that this is the norm. This is not a good thing. I understand we have to be responsible and read before class and study the material over, but we should not have to self teach key important skill and concepts!! And when we have questions or are unclear about something we read, we should have our questions answered by the professionals hired to educate and prepare us for the clinical setting. It just seems so wrong in so many ways.

Clinicals are every other saturday for the 1st 16 weeks. After you pass gerontology the clinicals move to nights during the week. Psych is back a bergen regional and Med surg is in Nursing homes. I have no clue where they will send us for Maternity/Peds. Hope that helps. Make sure you have a lot of time to devote to studying. They expect you to do ALOT on your own.

That is exactly why I am venting. If it seems a lot of people have the same complaints, I will know it's not just the school I chose. But I am very unhappy and cannot wait to move on from here. 12 months to go...

Completely Unhappy With The School I Chose
What can I do? I am completely unhappy with the school I am attending for the LPN program. They are very disorganized, unprepared for lectures, don't prepare us well for clinical, change to course outline a week before a test! Expect us to self teach a majority of the material... Is it my school choice or my field choice? I am seriously considering dropping out/transferring. I can't take the lack of effort on the school's part. Any advise? anyone in a similar situation?

I am also paying 17 something. I am sure by now it is closer to 20K. I am not sure when a new module begins. Did you talk to anyone in admissions? They will certainly help you out. You have to take an entrance exam too...

How do you handle all 'other' responsibilites while in nursing school??
I too have 1 year old twins plus a 3 year old toddler. I go to school at night though so, when my husband takes over with the kids, it's usually just dinner and then bed time. Anyway, the most important thing is that you have help and a great support system. It sounds like your mom is great. Just thank her for helping you :) When you complete the program it will be so worth it. It's only short term as you said. The way I see it is as long as the kids are clean and fed everything else is not as important. Yea, I feel guilty sometimes I am here during the day with my books open instead of playing with them, but it is what it is right now. The program only lasts so long and it is a really good future for everyone. Keep up the good work! I am here if you want to chat :)

What else is near by? I am tired of the same old BK and McyD's... Do you attend during the day? Celi, my name is not Star, just my user name :) If I could figure out how to send you a private message I would tell you. I like to remain somewhat anonymous in the event that some one might read what I post :chuckle

Care Planning Question
Thank you for your response. So, to be clear is this wrong: Risk for injury r/t seizure disorder? This is my first one and I am trying to 'get it down.' I have picked a few nursing diagnoses to work with, but I feel like they are dead ends. Like what kind of intervention or goals could one have for someone who is incontinent in diapers and can not get to the bathroom because they can not walk? My goal for the patient clearly cannot be will toilet on own... I feel stuck.

Myclassmate is SO irritating!! Ugh!
Yes, and to think you can't get away from them!! AHHH! We are stuck with each other till the end. Everyone wants to know everyone's grades in my class too. I hate it, I get good grades too, but that doesn't mean I want to share it with you! Some people are just rude and they don't even realize it. It is so annoying. Good luck though, and change your seat quick! You don't want to be caught cheating (even though you are not the one) if he is seen copying off your paper, you can both get in serious trouble!

If I could start over, I would just go do the 2 year RN program. I chose the evening course and it's a year and a half. Plus, with the pregnancy I will have to take time off and I will fall behind. So, hind sight is 20/20 right? Anyway, I like the school. I haven't had any problems, I just have a complaint about the food, nothing but vending machines, so bring your own!! Unless, you like fast food all the time, that's near by...

Care Planning Question
I have a question about care planning... the 'related to' part of the diagnosis statement, can it relate to a medical diagnosis the Dr. made even if I do not observe any symptoms? I have to write and actual and a risk for. I'm thinking I can use it in the risk for, but not the actual. Any help is appreciated :)

As a current student, I heard you had to work as an LPN for a year before they will accept you into the RN bridge program. Also, when you come out you will only have an associates degree. Personally, for me, when I am finished at Eastwick I am going to apply to a 4 year college and get my BSN. By the way, I have 3 kids and I am pregnant with my 4th... It is doable, but you need a tremendous support system. Good luck!

Just Started School & Pregnant
I just started an LPN program last week and found out (unexpectedly) that I am pregnant with my 4th child! I know I can make it through the program because I WANT to. My question is do I have to notify the school? Or is it not really that important? I haven't even had my first OB visit yet... I am nervous that they may suggest I take time off. They can't force me, right? I really am uneasy about everyone finding out.
