Hey everyone. Both my friend and I are in FNP programs and we were talking the other day wondering if there are compact states for NP licenses like there are for RNs. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance :)

NLC does not apply to APN
Eligible NursesYou can obtain a compact (multistate) license if you…Legally reside in a NLC state. See map above.Hold an active RN or LPN/VN nursing license in good standing. Note: APRN's are not included in this compact.Declare a NLC state as your primary state of residency. *Meet the licensure requirements in your home state. When working in a remote state, you will also be held accountable to the nurse practice act of the state where the patient is located or where practice occurs.

Ok. Thanks so much!
Well I actually found out some interesting information. According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, there is an APRN Compact since May 4, 2015!
"The APRN Compact, approved May 4, 2015, allows an advanced practice registered nurse to hold one multistate license with a privilege to practice in other compact states." (https://www.ncsbn.org/7405.htm)
Very interesting!!!!

Interesting -- but have any states signed the compact? It doesn't mean anything until states choose to participate.

This looks like they approved a template but there has yet to be a single state to sign it. It's also important to note that since all states have different rules to scope and prescriptive practice, especially with controlled substances, it would still be a chore to practice from one state to another, even with a compact APRN license.
One advantage of the regular nursing compact as that if you do apply for APRN designation in a compact state, you can use your compact RN license and don't need to obtain a new RN license for that state too. For example, when I obtained my New Mexico APRN license, I was able to get it with my Texas RN license. Similarly, several of my friends from New Mexico used their RN licenses to get their Texas APRN license since both are compact states.

No but if there is an RN compact then it really makes your ARNP application approval quicker.
