Hi all!
So I'm currently making my class/clinical schedule for fall 2019. A lot of my class/lab days are already long, and clinicals start at 7 am. Thing is, I commute from about 45 minutes to 1 hour away from the clinical setting locations. That means I'll have to be up by 5:15 in order to be out the door by 6:00 to arrive in time by 7:00. I'm just a little concerned because literally everyone has been telling me about how intense junior year is going to be, and the commute isn't going to make things any easier.
I might be a wimp, but does anyone/did anyone ever commute that far for clinicals? If so, how did you guys manage? Is it that bad? Any tips from any nursing commuters?
Thanks!!! :)

WOW! You have it easy! Yes, you are indeed a wimp ?
My commute is anywhere from 1-2 hrs depending on traffic. Clinical is at 0600 and exams are at 0730. There are many days I'm out the door by 0400 so waking up at 0515 sounds wonderful. I haven't utilized a hotel or students house, yet. I'm only halfway done, though. I did take a look at airbnb options in the area before I was accepted in case it would be necessary so that's another cheap route. I have offers from classmates if necessary at this point. I prefer my own bed and routine though.

Lol! Well, this thread has definitely shown me I have zip to complain about! Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated! I'm glad I know these longer commutes are doable. :)

I'm in Colorado and when it looked like a blizzard was hitting my town, but not where I had to drive to, I'd get a cheap hotel the night before near the hospital-- thus avoiding starting a whiny thread titled "late to clinical and flunking" or "missed 2 clinicals because snow and dropped from program! HELP!"
Of course in the real world hospitals make plans for major emergencies and employees stay overnight where ever they can find space. They do this to avoid what you described above. At my school if a snow day was declared we were cancelled because all of the clinical sites barely want us there are it is much less in an emergency situation.

With determination you can do it. I have a class mate that drives 1.5 hours away. She doesn't have children; so, if snow is on the way she stays at a motel or stays at a classmates house.
You can do it!
