Columbia SON MDE 2019

Updated:   Published

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.

I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?

My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Thank You!

In regards to online courses, I spoke to someone on the admissions board at Columbia who told me that Portage Learning is a great place to take any prerequisites you still need to fulfill. They're pretty great on pricing too!

OMG!!!! I just looked at the price for Portage Learning and it was literally half of most schools. Thank you :D

Hey!

I'm an undergrad student applying for the FNP program! I had a question about the application for anyone who's completed the video portion already. On the website, it's called the "video essay" and we're provided with one question to answer. (An obstacle in your life and how you overcame it.)

In the email we get for the video essay link, however, it says "interview" instead of video essay.

So- is the one provided question the only thing that we submit, or is it a single/central question included with other questions, kind of like a general video interview that we submit?

Any info on this would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi all! The Columbia MDE is my dream program and I am excited to start this application process with all of y'all. I have started my applications at various schools for hopefully a Summer/Fall 2019 start, and I am currently working on my personal statement.

I did the video essay portion and it is just the one question about an obstacle and how you overcame and learned from it. It says interview but it is just the one question.

Is there a priority deadline?

Hi! Thank you for posting in this thread. I'm just wondering how do you like the program so far? Do you think the classes and professors are setting you up for success? I just would like some input this is my first choice school so I would love to be accepted!

Awesome, thanks for clarifying!

Hi!

I'm currently in the 2018 cohort and just finished the summer quarter. I have some free time and if anyone has any questions or concerns I'd love to help! Good luck with all your applications.

Hey Everyone,

I participated in the first Virtual Open House this last Wednesday. We were informed that the total cost of the MDE program (All 15 months) will be roughly 110K. The DNP Portion runs at 160K so total for the MDE/DNP is about 270K just in tuition. Add on that costs for books, travel, living expenses, and other costs of living and you will have a better mental picture of how much the program may cost in a global sense.

Hi all,

I am going to be applying to the MDE/DNP program this year! I am exempt from taking the GRE, but will have to take it for some other programs that I am applying to. Will Columbia allow me to put in this score/should I put the score in (assuming that it is high enough)? Also, I have not taken any of the science prereqs (a&p 1 &2, and microbiology), but will be doing a&p 1 and microbio this semester. Since the priority deadline is in October, will this be an issue? I have taken some science courses throughout my undergrad, but not the prereqs. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks so much for willing to answer our questions. I'm pretty anxious about the price for Columbia, they keep giving us estimates in the 110-130 range. I was wondering if u could share any information regarding how much the "final" price is, as well as info on Financial aid, grants, scholarships from the school, or anything at all regarding mitigating the huge price tag. Thank you SO MUCH!
