Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Actually, Columbia said we'd be notified *after* the 15th. So we won't necessarily hear anything on the 15th.

Does anyone know how challenging it is to get accepted to the DNP portion at columbia or anywhere else for nurse midwifery? I'm very interested in going to Columbia, but not sure it's for me unless I can go a midwifery track fairly simply.

I couldn't imagine going through such a competitive application process again only to not be a midwife.

Thanks!

Hi!!! I understand where the concern is! From what I was informed the midwifery programs in schools like Columbia, UPENN , Yale etc. Are some of the most competitive out of all of the programs. This from my understanding is due to the lack of available Midwives the students can be placed with.

I would say that if you attend Columbia submatriculating would probably give you a much better Chance!

Good luck with your choice!!!

I am wondering the same, but not necessarily for midwifery... My thoughts are if you make positive connections with faculty and get good recommendations you do have better odds of admittance. But Im really not sure and it is discouraging to imagine the whole application process and anxiety all over again.

Hello All! I was accepted into the MDE/DNP FNP program. Excited to meet all of you March 2nd! Anyone coming from CA? Where is everyone living, on campus or off? very excited!!

Hi imbustamante,

Congratulations! I am going to be in the MDE/DNP Acute Care program. I'll be at the Feb 24 Los Angeles visiting day as well as the main one on March 2. I'm also coming from CA. I'll most likely live off campus, but will need a roommate. I'm interested in learning more about on campus housing too. How about you?

I am so excited to meet everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I've recently got accepted to the MDE '18 program starting in the summer. I'm very very excited about the opportunity, but also super anxious...:)

We currently live in Germany due to my husband's work assignment and have a 2 year-old daughter, which means that if I decide to accept the spot I have to manage a big move, find housing and child care for my daughter in just a couple months...

Does anyone have experience doing the program while having a young child? I'm debating if I should start it now or wait until she gets a bit older, but not sue if I can defer or need to reapply next year. Any thoughts would be highly appreciated:)

Look forward to hearing from you,

Kitti

Hi there! I was also accepted into the MDE/DNP program. I do not think you can defer, but I have a seven year old daughter and I think you should start the program now. If your husband's work assignment and your life allows. There is never a perfect time, even if the child is older. I know Columbia has resources for students as parents. I have provided the link below. I am also a NYC native so am happy to answer any city questions. best of luck!

Parents | Student Health Service

Columbia is actually affiliated with some child care centers... if you go on the link listed and search under students as parents you will see all the available resources they offer

Anyone know stats on how many people apply and are admitted to the MDE/DNP program?

Anyone know stats on how many people apply and are admitted to the MDE/DNP program?

I believe like 700-800 apply and they accept 200... I'm not sure how many get accepted per speciality though. (someone said those stats in an old forum so it could be different

Anyone know how big the Midwifery class is?
