Columbia Post-BSN DNP ( June 2021)

Updated:   Published

Hey guys! Thought I'd start a thread for Columbia DNP hopefuls. I applied for the June 2021 cycle for the AG-ACNP specialty. Would love to hear from others while waiting for decisions!

Hi, I'm a current MDE-DNP student at CUSON. Would you, or someone else who received a merit scholarship, be willing to share how much that is for?
Some of us who are in MDE now and continuing straight into DNP this fall asked the school about more $$$ and they told us that they are not offering merit scholarships for MDE to DNP students, so I would love to hear more about this! Thank you and congrats to those accepted!

Hi sorry for the delay! It is $20,000 in total. $5,000 for fall and Spring semester.  I think for the MDE/DNP program there is a seamless scholarship of $40,000 but it is something I’d speak to financial aid about!

Ahh thanks so much! Congrats! This is super helpful to know.
yes, we all get that seamless discount  automatically, but they aren’t considering any of us for additional merit based scholarships which is frustrating, even for those of us who were inducted into their honors society, etc., I am unlikely to continue thru to the DNP at Columbia for a number of reasons but this is one of them!
appreciate the response and good luck with your studies!!

Completely understandable! I’m sure no matter where you go you will prosper! Best of luck on the boards! (I found Mark Klimeks NCLEX audio review to be the most helpful, that along with Saunders back when I took my boards). How did you like Columbia overall? I am excited to start!

P.S. - do you happen to know where students are getting the embroidered Patagonia fleece jackets? I have been searching but haven’t found anything!

@AnthonyforMichael

LOL I just wrote out a whole long response and then deleted it because I don’t want to rain on your parade! In the end, I don’t regret going to Columbia but if I could do it all over again, I would go elsewhere. I had high expectations based on their position as an Ivy League program and promises that I just think they didn’t deliver on. Having said that, I did well academically/I feel prepared to pass the NCLEX, it’s definitely the fastest game in town, and we were able to get in most of our clinical hours despite COVID. Hopefully the name helps open doors so I can repay these hefty student loans!

I’ve also heard the dnp programs are better than MDE so that’s something, and just be prepared to advocate for yourself when issues inevitably arise. The administration at least listens to the students if nothing else and they are trying to do better.  If you are planning to work during DNP, I would get specific scheduling info from the program director for your DNP before committing, it seems less flexible for working nurses than I would have thought.

The Patagonias are from two group orders we did, one thru student nurses association and one thru the student council. I’m sure they will order again when you’re here, it seems pretty annual!! Best of luck and enjoy!

Thank you! And no worries It’s best to go into it with full knowledge! My cohort seems really small (16 or so people) so perhaps things will be run a bit better than the MDE cohort which I hear is large!  Congrats on passing your boards! You will make an excellent nurse I am sure of it.  Working will definitely be a challenge, currently seeking a part time position as my current nurse manager will not let me drop from full time to part time so it is definitely a challenge and I do not want to pass up on school.  The schedule for Summer already seems daunting.

Thank you for the info regarding the jackets! I’m sure they will reach out as we start Summer term!

Hi! I was just curious if anyone attending the DNP program had received anything in the mail from Columbia. I was hoping to get more official news as far as start date, schedule, clinicals, etc.!

Are you guys apart of the DNP facebook group? It look abit of digging on my part but class schedule is done (I’ll DM if needed) and start date is June 7th. Obviously this isn’t official but schedule of classes wasn’t hard to find.  We will officially know I guess on orientation but I’m sure It will not differ from what I have found.

Have you all done pre-registration requirements for student health? It is all due tomorrow so I want to make sure everyone has it done!

Is anyone planning to do this program full time while working full time as an RN as well? I’m debating if I should try to stay full time at work to get tuition reimbursement benefits or go part time/per diem.

Hey what rules are required to get tuition reimbursement? Like do you have to work a year for them? Are you allowed to leave after you graduate or do they make you stay a certain amount of time?

So for my hospital, you have to have worked for a full year to get tuition reimbursement benefits. Once you graduate, you are obligated to work for the hospital for one year in order to finish the deal. If you leave within the year after graduating, then you’d have to pay the hospital back for the tuition reimbursement they paid for you.
