Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

Congratulations! On behalf of Columbia University School of Nursing, I am pleased to offer you admission to the Masters Direct Entry (MDE)/Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with a specialty of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

The MDE is 15 months (4 semesters I think?) The DNP is 2.5 years. I'm unsure whether there's any opportunity to transfer MDE credits to the DNP and shorten that DNP time, though. I know other schools offer that, usually like a fifth of the DNP length or so if you did your MSN through the school in question as well.

There is an opportunity for MDE students to apply/enroll in the DNP program during the last semester of the program (I believe), but I am uncertain if this would shorten the DNP program? I would imagine it would only take 1-1.5 year(s) to complete the DNP portion after completing the MDE portion. I was going to apply to the FNP specialty for DNP but decided I wanted to play it safe and just do the MDE for now, so I will definitely be looking into joining the DNP portion if I am allowed and doing well in the program!

Waitlisted.  Congrats for all the accepted applicants! When is your decision/deposit due?

I'm going to email to ask for total cost of program. The sample course schedule might be on the website, but I'm happy to ask about that too.

Congrats everyone!! Did anyone apply to the MDE/PhD program too? Would love to connect ?

What are people doing to have gotten in? Have most of the prerequisites done before applying?

It's so confusing to me! According to this https://www.nursing.columbia.edu/programs/psychiatric-mental-health-nurse-practitioner the PMHNP DNP is 2 years. But then here https://www.nursing.columbia.edu/programs/doctor-nursing-practice it says that for RNs with an MS (which we would be post-MDE program) it's 3 years?

March 7. I hope you can get off the wait list! Personally, I'm thrilled to have gotten in, but I don't think I can afford it.
