Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

Does anyone have any insight on hospitals preferring/requiring a BSN over MSN *only* new grads? If that makes any sense

I currently work as a nursing assistant at a hospitals.
a lot of times an MSN means that you have a concentration in something. I think in case of Columbia, MSN is standing for BSN, since we’re not really concentrating in one specialty.
that being said, hospitals do prefer BSN RN to like LPNs, because the degree is higher?
not sure about MSN/BSN preference, but they do like to see a higher education vs community college level from what I’m gathering…it’s all the same work really, but many nurses told me to just go for the BSN RN if I can and skip the LPN, since that’s what the hiring people want to see

In my case for example, I have a bachelors of science, so I’m not sure if it would matter if I had a BSN or MSN, since my science base is pretty strong

Honestly if you have as master's of science in nursing from Columbia you'll have no issues getting a job

Sorry if this is a silly question. For example, NYU requires of new hires "Education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required" - does anyone know for sure that MSN would be substituted?

Actually after some more research, it doesn't look like it would be an issue at all. I just heard someone make a point of pursing a BSN because it apparently was something they were coming up against. Probably misinformed

Hi friends!

I felt prompted by Ever12 to post a comment. I'm also a long-time lurker here ??‍♀️ I wanted to say thanks to all the regular posters who make me smile and laugh with all your crazy posts ? Praying we hear by Thursday noon and peace as we wait on the decisions.

Re. MSN vs. BSN question - With both degrees, if you pass your NCLEX, you'd be a licensed RN. I don't see why hospitals would prefer one or the other, especially as new grads. I think an MSN is beneficial when applying for a nurse leader role, but I imagine that would require prior years of experience as an RN.

Also, am I losing it... but where is the portal everyone's talking about? Is it the portal that has all our submitted documents when we completed our app?

I think this is something that happens to your portal sometimes when you open an acceptance letter or something. Basically just confetti flying all over your screen haha
