Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

I was so focused on the video essays that I didn’t even know there was a timed write and was so confused when the prompt popped up. I prob wasted a good minute trying to make sense of it hahah.. I think mine was something about what I think my best quality is

I wish I had your topics haha. Mine was:  “discuss and develop a plan to better the community in which you live”.   ??‍♂️ I think I responded well considering the time limit etc. but it’s all a blur.

I had one typo… it definitely wasn’t the most amazing paragraph I’ve ever written LOL The prompt was about my favorite hobby and I chose cooking.

Yeah I would not place big money on the quality of my paragraph but your prompt was literally about your favorite hobby? WHAT?! Mine was something like "describe a problem that exists within the community you live in and come up with a plan to better the community" I literally sat there and screamed "TEN MINUTES? YOU EXPECT ME TO DO THIS IN 10 MINUTES?!"

OMG YES MINE WAS ALONG THE LINES OF THIS ONE TOO!

My topic (cooking) did not spark a lot of passion in me, but luckily I’m a good writer so I made the best of it. I am very opinionated and have a big mouth, so I would’ve loved to have your prompt. I can think of a major issue happening in my small community (~10,000 people) in Fairfield Iowa that I would have had a lot to say about, including plausible solutions. At the time I submitted my application, there was a video-recorded City Council Meeting (yes, they call it a city LOL) which rejected a letter of intent. The purpose of the letter was to stand by non-discrimination of protected classes. One Councilwoman had an outburst, saying that sexual orientation and gender should not be protected because that will cause sex trafficking and pedophilia in Fairfield! Can you imagine what it’s like living here?

Wow! That’s a very difficult question to answer in 10 minutes. I got the hobby one too.

Also wow to that, sounds like a lot of mental gymnastics for her to draw that conclusion

For sure... Let’s face it…They are all hard questions.  A randomly generated question with 10 minutes to produce a response is a basket full of stress. I thought the entire application for the CUSON program was pretty intense. I put a lot of energy and time into my application (which I’m sure goes for all of us here)… took me about 2 months from start to finish. I think I submitted my application late August.

** also everyone mentions 2 essays even on the virtual seminar. I applied to the MDE/DNP program so I wrote 3 were you all prompted to write 3?
MDE essay. APRN essay and Ethics essay.

My timed writing was so embarrassing I did the MDE essay, the ethics essays , and the extra essay of choice. I think my video essays were good. I hope they didn’t look too much into the timed writing response.

That’s why I’m confused. What do you mean the extra essay of “choice”.  My application instructed me to write three essays… I guess because if you’re applying for the MDE and DNP program you’ll need to write two essays? Vs just the one for MDE only?

The MDE application had 2 essays you had to write and then 1 optional essay. I didn’t apply for the DNP program so maybe that’s why you had 3.
