Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
Hi,
I am a long time reader of this forum and a first time poster. I feel exactly as you do. I was literally on my IPhone checking to see if I received an email from Columbia when the email popped up. I excited and nervous and that quickly gave way to frustration and more nervousness when I realized it was just giving FAQs.
I know this disappointing for everyone! This decision means major life changes for all of us and it's hard to move forward with plans without knowing!
I'm probably reading far to much into that email, but it seems like they have not completed making the final decisions which leads me to believe they won't come Monday, but probably later in the week. I hope I'm wrong!
I wish there was something that could keep our minds off the impending decisions! Any other topics we can discuss in the meantime? Haha.
I'm sort of thinking that most, if not all, decisions have been made. They really can't release too early or the Feb 15th deadline loses its oomph for future applicants. Today's email may just be to ward off questions when some get in for the MDE but not the clinical doctorate or PhD - and maybe it's a good sign - and the decisions will be emailed sooner rather than later? Maybe?? I suppose in any event, we will know no later than 10 days from today!!!
I also think that most decisions have been made by now. It's probably more like certain processes that have to undergo to release the acceptance emails, for they now have to get ready for the applicants responses. I have a strong feeling it will be on Monday given that email they just sent out. They most likely want people to really let that sink in over the weekend before releasing the decisions, so they don't get bombarded with those questions next week.
rj_gunner- where are you seeing this Feb 15th deadline? In that financial aid email they said we would know decisions by the 15th, but they never said the FAFSA was due by then. On the FAFSA website, I see most schools are due around March 1st, and I'm mostly seeing a June deadline... no Feb 15th anywhere. Also, I started it and I put I'm a 1st year graduate/professional, I hope that's correct :/ I think for all the schools I applied to it is but I always worry about these things!
It's listed on the website- right where it states when applications are due. It makes sense since we start in June. And thats correct, for Columbia we're all1st year grad students . . . you shouldn't have an issue.
I did get the financial aid email a couple weeks ago, but that was before I changed my email address with the office. (I had originally used my work email for the application, but changed to my personal so I would get the decision if it came even when I wasn't at work!) So I'm guessing/super hoping that's why, not that it's an early sign of rejection....
Did any of you guys apply to the MDE portion only, not DNP? I did (I'm too unsure of exactly what type of advanced practice I'd want to do--adult acute vs. primary vs. family right now...want to get some experience, at least in school, under my belt first) and wondering if that will impact when we are notified.

They sent an email explaining how to apply and what to designate your year in school as. Remember it's a masters program. If you applied to other schools that grant BSN's you have to apply as a 5th year student when applying to them.
