Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
Yeah, that was not cool by them. They know we are looking desperately at our emails, only to get a FAQ prior to decisions email. Seriously, we all have degrees here, so we know what we applied to, so we are not going to bother them with tons of questions afterwards. Anyways, it seems decisions are not too far away, I am thinking maybe on Monday.
Here is the email that was sent out:
We hope that your new year is off to a great start. As you await our published decisions next month, we wanted to address a few points and ensure that you are clear about the program options for the 2016 cohort.
1. There are three application options: MDE, MDE/DNP, and MDE/PhD. Just to be clear, the Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program is a 15 month MS program which will make you eligible for RN licensure upon successful completion. Students in any of the three aforementioned programs will enter into the same MDE cohort. If you just applied to the MDE program, your decision is for entry into the 15 month MDE program only.
If you applied to either the MDE/DNP or MDE/PhD program, you applied to a joint-degree program where you would first complete the MDE program then transition into a three year doctoral program. The DNP will make you eligible for NP licensure in your selected specialty, and you will attain a clinical doctorate. The PhD is a research-based doctorate degree.
2. If you applied to the MDE/DNP or MDE/PhD program, you will either be accepted into both parts of the programs or just the MDE phase of the program.
3. If you only applied to the MDE program or only were accepted into this phase, you may apply to the DNP or PhD program once on campus. However, we may not able to guarantee availability into all DNP specialties.
4. If you are accepted into a joint MDE-doctoral program, you may take a one year leave of absence following the MDE program. However, we may not able to guarantee availability into all DNP specialties upon your return.
5. Decisions will be published by February 15th. We will send an e-mail notice that your decision is available. You will then log into your application and view a PDF of your decision letter. If accepted, all outstanding coursework/degree requirements must be completed by orientation, June 1st.
6. We have previously sent an e-mail regarding the financial aid process. We will follow up with accepted students shortly after the decisions are released.
We know that you are awaiting your decision and can assure you that we are working hard to complete this process as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, you may reach out to us at [email protected].
Kind Regards,
