Columbia ETP 2016

Published

Hello!

I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.

Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?

Yeah, let's hope so. Thanks for calling btw.

Just got the Columbia MDE FAQ email and briefly thought it was the decision letter only to be very disappointed after reading it through lol :(

NOT COOL. Who literally just freaked out with the email that came from the school of nursing with "decision" in the title? I thought for a good 15 seconds that they had made decisions! Big let down.

[emoji19][emoji20] I just can't. The FAQ email literally made me jump out of my seat. What if they're messing with us and they release decisions at like 4:59pm?

I know omg!!! I have them set up for special notifications On my phone so it scared the hell out of me !lol

My interpretation of that email: decisions are coming, and they wanted to remind everyone that you could get rejected from DNP but still get into the MDE program. They must be anticipating a lot of questions about that.

Yeah, that was not cool by them. They know we are looking desperately at our emails, only to get a FAQ prior to decisions email. Seriously, we all have degrees here, so we know what we applied to, so we are not going to bother them with tons of questions afterwards. Anyways, it seems decisions are not too far away, I am thinking maybe on Monday.

Is FAFSA really due by the 15th?? Uh oh haha. I don't even know how it works... do we apply per school?

Could someone post the FAQ email that was sent? I didn't get it (yet)... Worried that means I'll be the last to know about acceptance!

Yeah, it's due the 15th. You apply once, and there is an option to list all the schools you want to get your information. You should have gotten an email from Columbia regarding that, it has the instructions on what to fill out.

Here is the email that was sent out:

We hope that your new year is off to a great start. As you await our published decisions next month, we wanted to address a few points and ensure that you are clear about the program options for the 2016 cohort.

1. There are three application options: MDE, MDE/DNP, and MDE/PhD. Just to be clear, the Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program is a 15 month MS program which will make you eligible for RN licensure upon successful completion. Students in any of the three aforementioned programs will enter into the same MDE cohort. If you just applied to the MDE program, your decision is for entry into the 15 month MDE program only.

If you applied to either the MDE/DNP or MDE/PhD program, you applied to a joint-degree program where you would first complete the MDE program then transition into a three year doctoral program. The DNP will make you eligible for NP licensure in your selected specialty, and you will attain a clinical doctorate. The PhD is a research-based doctorate degree.

2. If you applied to the MDE/DNP or MDE/PhD program, you will either be accepted into both parts of the programs or just the MDE phase of the program.

3. If you only applied to the MDE program or only were accepted into this phase, you may apply to the DNP or PhD program once on campus. However, we may not able to guarantee availability into all DNP specialties.

4. If you are accepted into a joint MDE-doctoral program, you may take a one year leave of absence following the MDE program. However, we may not able to guarantee availability into all DNP specialties upon your return.

5. Decisions will be published by February 15th. We will send an e-mail notice that your decision is available. You will then log into your application and view a PDF of your decision letter. If accepted, all outstanding coursework/degree requirements must be completed by orientation, June 1st.

6. We have previously sent an e-mail regarding the financial aid process. We will follow up with accepted students shortly after the decisions are released.

We know that you are awaiting your decision and can assure you that we are working hard to complete this process as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, you may reach out to us at [email protected].

Kind Regards,
