Columbia ETP 2015

Published

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

I like MGHIHP. Between Columbia and MGHIHP, however, Columbia is the better school for my specialty (psych). They didn't give me any scholarships, either, so that made them easy to write off. It's also not very cheap. If I had the option of the inexpensive, highly ranked state NP school (UMass Med) I would take them in a heartbeat over any other program.

Thanks. I remember now that Iwas originally drawn to Columbia because they used to have a Women's Health track, but many schools are taking away that option. I also realized I want to be more marketable and have wide variety of patients after graduation. If I choose Columbia, I may possible end up switching to Adult Primary Care.

Also, is anyone going to be commuting from north New Jersey to school? I Know it sounds crazy, but I'd be coming from Boston with my hubby and pooch, and he could relocate his job to Jersey City. We're trying to be accommodating to one another.

@MissesOh. I just got accepted into the same program at MGHIHP--I don't think I'll go. I've heard really mixed reviews about the program and it's pretty expensive. If it helps, I've heard that a lot of FNP's choose to specialize in repro health/family planning, and are more employable as WHNP's because of their broad scope of practice--so, I think you could definitely work in that facet of gynecological care if it interested you. Like you, I'd be moving to NYC with husband and dog in tow . . . I'm okay with moving to Jersey City or Hoboken (which are starting to get cool and comparatively less expensive than NY), but my man says if we're moving to the metro area he wants to go all in and be in Harlem/Morningside.

Anyone interested in contacting me offline regarding rooming situations can email me at [email protected]

Thanks Bumblepea! This does help. I haven't heard much regarding FNPs specialization besides that we can't work in hospitals/limited to community centers and schools. I eventually do want to work in a community center, but I think I want teaching hospital employ, ent first. Good to know. My hubby would be paying all the bills while I'm in school, so i want what works best for him too, especially since I anticpate initial difficulty balancing school/family life. I've been out of school for 5 years now! This would be a huge change for us!

I hope so too. I'll be driving from Boston, probably the night before though so I can not look like a zombie. This would be my first long distance drive. Undecided yet when to actually go down.

I have been following this thread for couple months now. I also got accepted to the FNP track! Congrats to all :) I am from Southern California. Where is everyone staying after visiting day? I booked the plane ticket already but still need to find a place to stay.

I'm staying by NYU with my sister so I'll be coming from there . I did see a bunch of people rent out rooms and sublets by the day or week around there if you don't want to do a hotel.

Hi misses oh, I'm from SoCal as well and just recently booked the trip for visiting day. I'm only staying for the weekend so luckily I was able to find an affordable room with my friends via Priceline. Nursing fanatic also brings up good points- those options would be most economical. Good luck!

Wow! Spent the bulk of the last hour reading this thread. I'm from Seattle and got accepted into the midwifery specialty. Also just booked my flight to come to visit day! Beyond excited. First thing that came to mind is STUDY GROUPS! Hey, we might have gotten in on our own but will need each other to get through it. I can't wait to meet you guys! Congrats everyone!

I know the Yale GEPNs had a facebook page in years past and even did a questionnaire about hosing preferences, level of neatness, etc to help match roommates. Maybe someone who is for sure going to the ETP program could start something similar? I would do it but it would be silly for me to start it and then end up accepting a Yale offer.

Yikes!!!

"Most borrowers actually have less than $27,000 in debt. The average is skewed higher by the 1.8 million people -- a small proportion of all borrowers-- with extreme debt (as in, pushing $100,000)."
