Columbia ETP 2015

Published

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

Yeah I submitted my on campus housing and they said they will notify us in early April. So that still gives us a month to figure out in case we didn't get housing on campus. I'm not sure how I would rank in the placement since I'm from Florida but maybe we can all walk around together during visiting day and explore a bit. I'm also FNP so would like to have a roommate that's at least in the same ETP program so we have identical schedules for the most part.

Where is the on-campus housing form? I'm from MA so I doubt I live far enough to be considered priority for campus housing.

Thanks for all the neighborhood info! I looked around Craigslist last night. It's not terribly priced if folks were looking to go in on a 3-bed or something like that. And I'm sure rooms open up as students graduate and need to fill spots for summer/fall.

Hi -- this is the website: https://secure.cumc.columbia.edu/housing/single.php

But do you have to have your deposit submitted before applying?

I am also from MA and am wondering if I should just submit my deposit now or wait until after visiting day -- but I don't want to be waitlisted from campus housing, as it will be my only option :/

I have submitted my deposit but I don't think they ask you if you submitted your deposit or not so you might as well just submit the application form and then see what happens

Thanks for the link! I'll probably hold off on that application for the next 10 days. I'm trying not to stress too much about housing since I really don't know where I will end up. I'd like to see the financial aid offer before trying to plan those things.

There is no point in submitting the application until after you submit your deposit because the housing facilities department does not do anything with your application until the Admissions department confirms with them that you've paid your deposit.

Hi Snoozyd, My husband will be moving to Boston (cambridge) so we would HAPPILY accept any moving tips/renting info. I will be living with family in the Washington Heights area. Rentals up there are quite affordable (compared to the rest of the city) or even a bit further north, Marble hill if you're looking for cheap.

Does anyone know the move in date for on campus housing? Or move out date for current students?

Hi Everyone! Congrats on all of the acceptances! I was also accepted for the ETP PNP program starting in May. I am finishing up my undergrad degree in Southern California and I was hoping to find a potential roommate or two to share an apartment near Columbia. I will not be able to attend the visiting day, so let me know if you are also looking for a roommate! Thanks :)

Hey bslater - I'm from SF and may be interested! I'm still waiting to hear back from another school though before making my decision on Columbia.

Is anyone else nervous about taking on $200,000 worth of debt? I am doing a comparison between Columbia's total cost of attendance AFTER scholarships vs my state school vs MGH.

Columbia's total cost of attendance: $200,000 after scholarships (based on very realistic estimates I've gathered from financial aid chats and talks with current students). Duration: 3 years.

MGH total cost: $98,000 after scholarships. Duration: 3 years and 3 months

Highly ranked state school total cost: $65,000, no scholarships, but still super low because it's a state school. Duration: 3 years and 3 months.

Basically, do you guys think an Ivy League reputation and 3 months saved is worth the $100,000+ price tag??
