Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
I was at my daughter's drama rehearsal when the email came through my phone. I tried to log on with it but I couldn't see the whole letter (only a small portion) but I could see the ticker tape parade on the screen. I said, "I bet I got in. It would be in really bad taste to have that party on my screen if I didn't." Ha ha
Same here! I couldn't read anything but a small left margin of the letter so the confetti seemed like a good tip-off. Then I saw some positive words like "outstanding academic" or something like that. That was the moment I started bouncing around and cackling with excitement.
I'll probably put down my Vandy deposit just so I can weigh their pro/cons once I've heard back from all the schools. By the time Columbia wants their deposit I will have heard back from everyone.
I'm in a similar boat about Vandy/Yale too. What I don't like about vandy is that the masters portion is a distance-learning format. That personally doesn't appeal to me, as I feel like one of the things that I loved about Yale/Columbia is the sense of camaraderie the students seem to have. I can't imagine its the same experience while doing your clinicals all over the country and then only meeting for a few days during the semester. Although I'm sure it works better for some people who need that flexibility!
I'm relieved to see a few people feeling the same way about Vanderbilt. I emailed Columbia just now asking when we'd get any financial aid info, and if it'll be mailed very soon. I also asked if they'd mind if I did my last pre-req (A&P 2) on Portage (online). It's self-paced so I should be able to finish it in time for their May 27 (I think?) deadline. Anyone else getting antsy about banging out pre-reqs by the end of May? I worry that my community college wouldn't have the official transcript ready by then.
I'm in my last A&P right now. My community college is pretty good about getting stuff up by then. The class ends May 12th. I am more antsy about moving that soon! I am really hoping that I get a good scholarship offer from Columbia so I will feel better about declining Vanderbilt. I'm am cautiously optimistic about Yale based on feedback during my interview, but I am really trying to decide how much I care about losing that $200 to hold a space I don't really want to take at Vanderbilt. Their midwifery program is much more highly rated than Columbia's. On the one hand, Vandy's clinical set up allows for a lot of varying experiences, but on the other hand it is really a hardship and I am one of those people that learns better when I get comfortable. One of the things I really need to take into consideration while I am kvetching about Columbia's costs is how much it is going to cost to possibly relocate three or four times for Vanderbilt. Some of the midwifery preceptors are in Hawaii, so not all of the sites are cheap, and we are on the hook for all of those expenses.
Wow, Hawaii??! I haven't heard anything about preceptor locations for psych. Unlike Yale, MGH, or Columbia, Nashville isn't exactly an area known for psychiatric treatment. Rochester isn't, either, but at least they have outreach, emergency psych care, research, and interesting demographics. Columbia has the upper hand for psych placements, for sure.

I am right there with you!!! I clicked on the e-mail link and it wasn't loading the first few minutes! Then it finally opened like 5 windows and all I saw was little colored confetti and streamers and closed my eyes because I didn't want to see it just yet! I still wasn't sure if it meant anything so I had my co-worker read it to me! Oh man! Still so thankful!! Congratulations to you too! And see you soon!
