Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
Hi all! I'm in for Peds!!! Congrats to everyone accepted! :) Sooooo excited to meet all of you on visiting day. Anyone traveling from bay area/SF? I've never been to NY so i'm trying not to panic about making travel plans in 4 weeks. Does anyone know about the details of visiting day? (Do we need to dress business formal or will it be really casual?) I'm hoping it won't be snowing in March. Anyways, any info would be super helpful. Hopefully, Columbia will email us more details soon.
Congratulations again everyone! We've made it through this long waiting process....now we just gotta worry about the financial part of it. í ½í¸“ haha
Penn seems like a solid program, but I honestly don't like Philly. Also, I spoke to a few people who are current Penn students and some of them had not so good things to say about the program (I won't go into details, but a lot of the professors at Penn want to produce nurses that engage in power struggles with doctors). On the other hand, all the people I spoke to at Columbia seemed to love the program, plus it's in NYC - so much more interesting than run down Philly. Anyway, I shouldn't bash Penn. I'll probably end up going there, but I am very disappointed I didn't get into Columbia.
@Epicurus1982 I don't really mean to play devil's advocate, but I have heard all great things about Penn and some less than good things about Columbia's program. All in all, I really think it's hard to predict your own experience of a program off of somebody else's. Considering these are both top-ranked programs, I have no doubt that many people have excellent experiences there. It's all about which one best fits your needs and wants.

Yay we're the same specialty and I am also from the bay area! I should probably look at tickets soon... I assume business clothing etc would be appropriate, but I hope someone here who is in the program can give more information.

I'm in the exact same boat, kimfunky -- live in the bay area, and have never been to New York. I plan on calling tomorrow in hopes of finding out more info. I hope I don't get the runaround. Luckily, flights from SFO to JFK seem to be between $300-$350 which is pretty reasonable. Here's to hoping they stay that way until we get more details.
I called the SON office yesterday and I think they'll be emailing us details about Admitted Student Day tomorrow.. But registration for the day will begin around 9a and things will end around 3p.
I'm originally from Philly, but currently I'm in the Bay. I've been to NYC many times so if anyone has Qs, feel free to msg me! I'm thinking about making the trip for Admitted Student Day, even though I'm already leaning towards putting the deposit down for Columbia (I usually use these events prior to / help with my decision).. Very excited! And I didn't notice Columbia is only 2.5 years! That should help with cost. I got in for FNP, by the way :)
thought the confetti and streamers were pop-ups when I opened my letter.
I was at my daughter's drama rehearsal when the email came through my phone. I tried to log on with it but I couldn't see the whole letter (only a small portion) but I could see the ticker tape parade on the screen. I said, "I bet I got in. It would be in really bad taste to have that party on my screen if I didn't." Ha ha

Hmm, I called earlier and got different numbers. For the ETP program, they said the first year would be around 80k (although many people get $ deducted from that from internal scholarships,) and every year after that is 43k. Since year 3 is only one semester, it would be half off 43k so closer to 22k. Don't quote me on this, but this is what I gathered after calling admissions earlier today. Does that sound way off to you guys?
