Columbia ETP 2015

Published

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

in for FNP! congrats everyone!

I had the same issue and just got off the phone with admissions. You can choose any other specialty (Peds, FNP, Adult Geront/Acute, Adult Geront/Primary, Psych) that has space, just not the one from which you were denied. Also, you can wait until the BSN portion of the program is over and reapply to the specialty to which you want admission. Finally, it is possible that space in your specialty could open up if not all who were admitted decide to matriculate--however, if this were to happen, it would most likely be by the time classes start.

Oh thanks for the update! I was just about to call! What are you thinking about doing?

I will message you if you can get messages or I can email you. The short answer is 7 years of birthwork

Honestly, my first impulse is to eat a gallon of ice cream and cry for a few days. I desperately want to study midwifery, and might be willing to do women's health as an alternative, but am not nearly as interested in a specialty like family or peds. I'm going to take some time and talk with a few clinicians (FNP, CNM, WHNP) and see if making the move to NYC for Columbia and gambling on getting into midwifery at some point in the future is worth it.

Hey guys! Congrats to those that were accepted! I was wondering if anyone who was accepted would be kind enough to post GPA/GRE scores and experiences that helped your application. You can also message me; I'm applying 2016 so it would be helpful to have some basic info. Thanks!

To the Psych NP admitted, and anyone else -

How will you decide which program you will attend? I think my top choice is UCSF, but I haven't heard back yet. Columbia or Vandy would be my 2nd choice. I was admitted to Columbia, waitlisted at Vandy. To those admitted to both, how will you decide? I've been crunching tuition numbers and weighing options. I like that Columbia you graduate in 2.5 years, whereas UCSF is a full three year program. However, I'm from the bay area so it would be great to do my clinical sites locally. Another thing to consider is that Columbia offers a BSN whereas Vanderbilt and UCSF don't as far as I know. I think visiting day will definitely help me make a final decision, if it comes down to choosing between UCSF or Columbia. What are your guys' thoughts?

Hi Lexi,

I'm deciding between Vandy & Columbia for psych also! I think what it will come down to for me is tuition, meaning I'll likely go to Vandy unless I receive a lot of aid/scholarship money from Columbia. Both are such great programs in awesome cities. I am from DC so would need to re-locate regardless. I will be visiting Vandy this weekend and then attending Columbia's Visiting Day so that may also help my decision. Curious to hear other's opinions!

Congrats to everyone with every outcome. We all have worked hard.

So. I'm new to this and have just been haunting this thread. My question: does anyone know how we'll find out about financial aid packages and by when? I'm on my way to email Columbia's financial aid but I thought I'd ask my peers as well.

Hi congrats everyone!! Current ETP student here. Last year we found out about financial aid packages soon after visiting day and well before the deposit due date. Not every school discloses financial aid info before deposits are due, so thankfully Columbia is really good about understanding the importance of that!

Just got home from work...I freaked out in the drive through at starbucks (thank god for the free wi fi). In for acute care!!

Do they usually provide much in terms of scholarships?? What do typical financial aid packages look like??

I got in for adult acute care. I also got into NYU's accelerated program (won't have to put a deposit down until June). /

Does anyone have any advice or can anyone help me weigh pro's and con's for both schools? My main concern is getting a BSN in 12 months, instead of 15 at NYU, and I might not do the MSN part in order to get ICU experience to go into anesthesia. Anything would help.
