Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
You said you definitely wouldn't need a car - is that true even for the specialty years? A lot of other schools strongly recommend having a car to get to clinical sites since they can be pretty far off campus. Does Columbia have enough connections in the city to guarantee clinical sites in the city, or at least easily accessible by public transit?
You get plenty of bedside experience during the ETP year for sure. It's not necessary to have a car unless you live outside the city. If they give you a site outside the city, like Nyack, they provide transportation for you. I believe even for the specialties, you can still reach the sites by public transportation. Some exams are NCLEX style others are not.
Snoozyd, you most def dont need a car in the city!! I live in Manhattan and have a car which is a major pain!!!!... our mass transit system (although sometimes annoying bc we're spoiled nyers lol).. works wonders! There's a train and bus that goes everywhere and anywhere within NYC =)
Hope that helps

Definetly no car lol. The subway becomes your second home. Without a doubt in my mind, I love the program. It has exceeded all my expectations. However that's my personal experience. The staff is wonderful. The campus is small so it's my kind of learning. We get enough clinical experience. The hours are there but you need to make the most of them. During the summer we had clinical once/week plus 2 labs once/week. Fall and spring clinical twice a week and during integration for 6 weeks you follow the schedule of an assigned RN regardless if its nights and weekends. Plenty of time to fine tune your skills. However the program prepares you for the NCLEX, not to be a bedside nurse. They want advanced education NPs and DNPs. Totally different clinical experience. Keep the questions coming! Hope this is helpful. :)
