Denver School Of Nursing vs Front Range Community College

I am stuck between two schools right now. The reason why I would want to do Denver School of Nursing is because it is a pretty fast program and its a bsn so I wouldn't have to go back to school after. The price and the horrible reviews I see online are scaring me away. Front Range came into the picture because the program is only 12,000 and 4 semesters with summers off, so I really wouldn't have to take out any loans and the dual enrollment with metro full time is only 3 semesters and cost about 9,000 so I could be done with everything in roughly 3 years. The only downfall is that it is an ADN program. I have all the general educations, psychology, and math prerequisites out of the way now I have anatomy 1 in the summer and a&p 2 and microbiology in the fall. If I do DSN I would apply in August for the April 2016 start date. I am currently getting my CNA at Pickens Technical College. For all of the current and past DSN students is the 56k worth it? I hear so many horrible things about DSN and I just want to get some input on the school. How does the financial aid work? I get the full 5,700 pell grant a year, and I wanted to know how does financial break the grants up in a 21 month accelerated program?

Since Front Range requires the prereqs to be completed before applying I wont be able to apply until February of 2016 for the fall 2016 start. Can someone please give me some insight on these schools thank you.

Have you considered a "happy medium" like CU? Very reputable program, you get a BSN, PLUS it won't break the bank the way DSoN would.

Regarding the dual enrollment with Metro - my understanding is that the dual enrollment awards a BSN once you're done. If that's the case, then I would say to do that.

I'm not sure what terrible things” you're reading about DSN unlessyou're referring to posts that have been talked about here a long time ago. Nonursing school is perfect and people that don't make it are always going tocomplain (see the CU posts on this page). I have to speak up for my alum matterthough because these posts are soooo old news! Not only did I LOVE my time atDSN but as I've said before I've been told by many nurse supervisors that theyprefer DSN students at clinical and as new grad hires because they're so wellprepared. I know was! We were also emailed that DSN has been approved by theHLC regional accrediting agency to start offering online nursing mastersprograms so obviously the regional accreditors think it's a great school aswell. As far as costs goes, my sister's roommate is attending the nursingprogram at CU currently and after looking at the costs that you have to payevery semester at CU it's only about $5000 less than DSN. The only differenceis that DSN shows you all costs up front. I love my job and I love DSN!![/COLOR]

I am thankful you said this! I start my accelerated program at DSN next Monday and I could not be happier. I am so excited. I had the orientation last Thursday and I am SO impressed with all the faculty and staff. Those "bad" reviews are from those who failed out of the program or who didn't get accepted. Everyone will always be negative and have something bad to say.

Metro's dual program only starts nursing classes AFTER you get your ADN and RN. They're basically trying to get you to take your Gen Ed classes at Metro while completing your ADN at a local CC. I'm currently attending FRCC and dual enrolled with UCCS so I'll be done with my BSN Fall '16 after I graduate from FRCC.

Just graduated with a BSN from DSN. I'd have to say every school is a bit what you make of it. Most of the professors are really pretty good and want to see you succeed. Not sure what the "terrible reviews" are about. There are a few annoyances but what school doesn't have that?

Hi Pamcakes, I may be starting at FRCC in Fort Collins next semester. How is the program? Do you like the teachers? Do you find the dual enrollment program to be overwhelming or is it manageable?

Are the job placements rates advertised by DSN accurate in your experience? They say 97% of grads get a gig in 3 months, but that seems too good to be true.
