COLLIN COLLEGE - Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi guys! I thought I’d make a new forum for those applying to the Spring program at Collin College.

I applied for the fall semester, but I was not accepted, the fall term was extremely competitive. I was told that they had an unprecedented amount of applicants last cycle, there were over 400 applicants. Also, the average TEAS score of the applicants was 87.5. I retook my TEAS last week and made a 92!

I retested today and scored an 88.7. Hopefully that’s enough to get into the program! Good luck everyone! ??

You killed it, girl! I retest on the 20th, I’m so nervous! It’s the science that I’m most worried about, it’s such a lucky bag with the type of questions you’ll get.

I was so hoping for anything over a 90 but it is what it is. I did better on the science portion this go around. The science portion was definitely a little bit of everything, nothing too crazy. It’s things we should know from the systems, I missed two questions regarding the digestive and endocrine systems. The other topics I missed were surprisingly scientific reasoning questions. If you need help with anything feel free to email me. [email protected].

I am applying for Spring 2021 too. I applied for fall 2020 and did not get in. I applied with 79.3 TEAS score and As in both A &P 1 and 2. Micro was still in progress at the time. I just retook the TEAS and scored 85.7! I plan to retake next week to see if I can score higher to increase my chances. For now my stats are :

A&P 1: A

A&P 2: A

Microbiology: A

TEAS

Reading: 70.2%
Math: 87.5%
science: 95:7%
English: 91.6%

I did not retake any classes so my total points for now is 19.57!

Hello Everyone, I sent my application in about a month ago. I'm really hoping to go to Collin's program, but I'm also taking BSN pre-req's at UTA. I'll apply there in January if I don't get in to Collin. I have a 4.0 and a fairly good TEAS, 89.3. Micro is still in progress, though.

I did hear that they only accepted 75 students (down from 90) last semester because of Covid. From what I read on last semester's thread, they started using tie-breakers around 16 points.

How are you all feeling about entering nursing in the midst of a pandemic?

Good luck on your applications. A way to go for those who retook the TEAS! I'm sure that will pay off.

Hi! I retook my TEAS today and scored a 92. The tiebreakers are super important! Last term, 60 people were accepted and 545 applied. Collin is super competitive, to say the least.

It’s definitely daunting starting with a crisis going on, but, anyone working in the health care capacity will always be more susceptible to infectious diseases, just by the nature of the job! I don’t think it will be until Fall 2021 that off-site clinicals actually begin though; since we do not have Summer classes at Collin anymore. If I’m remembering correctly, they do not start until the second semester.

Jazzy, Great TEAS score. I think you'll definitely get in. I probably should have tried for a higher score, but too late now! Application is sent. It's in God's hands. Now we wait. ? Good luck to everyone.

Hi guys. I don’t plan on applying until next year for the Spring 2022 (far away, I know). I just wanted some perspective.  I have a 3.2 GPA  - 2 A’s in A & P 2 and Micro and an unfortunate C in A & P 1!  On my TEAS, I have a 93.  Based on points, I am at 18.36 points.  I know they deduct for retaking and if I retake the C and get an A, I would get only one extra point instead of 2 (since you’re deducted 1 point automatically) - I’m wondering if an 18.36 is competitive enough or if I should retake to get an A for that extra point.  I am not sure if this matters, but I also have my CNA and a previous associates degree is Nutrition.  PS greatly appreciate this thread and I am crossing my fingers you all get accepted for the Spring!

Hi! It’s tough to answer, just because every application cycle varies! But, Collin is very competitive, so personally, I would retake the class. One point may seem trivial, but when it comes to a points based admission, it can make or break you being accepted over another candidate. For example, someone could have scored as low as a 74 on the TEAS, but if they have A’s in both of their A&Ps...they would end up with 18.4 points. You did very well on your TEAS, and if you secure an A in A&P 1 (which I’m sure you easily can), you’re guaranteed a spot.

When did you take your TEAS, btw? Just wanted to mention that the TEAS scores are only valid for a year from the date taken; just something to keep in mind if you’re applying for Spring 2022!

Hello guys!

You all did wonderful on the TEAS! I didn't score as high as some of you at 61.3%, but I'm still as confident! I'm hoping to get in on my 3.0 GPA for my Sciences and I've completed all my prereqs because Im actually hoping to transfer to Collin from my current BSN program.

Does anyone know when we will get our notifications? The app period is super long ?

Hi! Yes, so they don’t actually start reviewing applicants until after the deadline date, which is today. Basing it off of the last term, the application deadline was June 5th, and people who made it in received their acceptance emails on June 30th. But, rejection emails were sent out later, I received mine on July 2nd. So, you should expect to her back from them within 3-4 weeks, in this case by the end of September! Best of luck to you.

Hi Jazzzy! Thanks so much! I was even told it could be beginning of October. Detrimental to my psyche, LOL.
