COLLIN COLLEGE FALL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey guys! Who here is applying for the fall 2020 term? Anyone else here unable to take the TEAS due to the cancellations? I signed up for two test dates, both of which were canceled. I see they've updated the process with alternatives put in place for those who were unable to take the TEAS. That being said, it's still super confusing since the admission process is points-based and a major part of the selection criteria is your TEAS scores. I hope this doesn't mean that those who were unable to take the TEAS are not going to be prioritized in the admissions process. ?

Hello,

I don't think they will deduct any point since it expired. It's just my thought though. Still ask them.

Okay. I want to retake my TEAS for a higher score in the reading section. Can I get a tutor for reading? Or can someone help me as to what to study to improve my score. I'm really struggling with the reading and I truly need help. Someone please help me.

The more applicants I get to know the more and more I realize a lot of us have the same personality type LOL. I think with 14 points you are good to go. I just have nothing to base my feelings off of though. I have heard so many wide ranging things about people who have been accepted that I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it all depends on the rest of the applicants.

I did the opposite of you for the TEAS. I studied so hard for the science and math that I completely neglected the language portion. By the time I realized how heavily weighted each question is on the Language section it was too late. I only missed THREE total questions in the Language portion and it dropped my score all the way down to a 79.2 for that section. That would be the one section I would tell someone to focus on. My overall TEAS scores were:

Overall: 88.7

Reading: 91.5

Math: 93.8

Science: 87.2

Language: 79.2

I missed 14 of the 150 questions which shows that they go by a weighted percent based off of a raw scores (136/150 is a 90.6%). The grading for the TEAS is definitely a bit wonkey because of their raw 600 point scale.

Can you help me with the reading section? I'm struggling with it and I need to make like a higher score. What did you study with?

@jazzzy_ I am looking at the selection criteria and counted 19 possible points. But saw your previous post that you counted 17 points possible

1 point for each pre-req= 3total

1 point for military service = 1 total

5 points max for A&P 1&2= 10 total

5 points max for TEAS score higher than 96= 5 total

so that would be 19 total if you got an A in both classes and higher than a 96 on the TEAS along with completing all pre-reqs and have military experience

Maybe I calculated that wrong somewhere?

If 19 is the total possible points then I believe I am applying with 15 points

I have a question if anyone can answer it for me, I don't want to call and ask one of the advisors and seem like I'm bugging.

So I was looking over the selection criteria and see where points are deducted for retakes off A&P over the past 5 years. So I did A&P 1 in 2013 and A&P 2 in 2014, so by now they would be considered "expired" since it was over 5 years ago. But when I took them back then I made a C for both classes. Well I retook them in 2017 so that they wouldn't be expired anymore and made an A in both classes. Sooooo my question is, since I had to retake them anyways will I still get the points deducted or do yall think I am OK?? sorry if my question seems confusing. Just curious on where I would stand on the point system ?

From what I have read and heard in the information sessions is that you will not be penalized for pre-requisites over 5 years old. That being said I do believe they look at your entire academic history while making their choices. I do not believe that acceptance is based solely on points, but this is all just conjecture on my part. Safest bet is to look on the website and ask during an info session.

It is one point for completion of ALL prerequisites not one per, at least that is what the sheet says (or so I interpret). They allow you to apply with Micro in progress which means you wouldn't get that one point. So if you have all 3 you get one point. I do not know if earning this point also includes the corequisites.

@DQuixote Thank you for your feedback I am hoping they will look at my A grade over my C grade LOL especially because that more points too

Thank you for clearing up the point system now that I went back again and looked at it your right its 1 point total, IDK why I was thinking 3 total. Makes sense now where Jazzzy got the 17 points total LOL so with that being cleared up I would be applying with 13 points.

I studied with the ATI practice tests directly from their website. However ai completely skipped over the Reading Comprehension section because that has always been a strength of mine. But a few of my friends said it really helped them. I also used a Kaplan hard book which I thought helped me the most.

Do you have any tips as to how I can pass the reading section? Like how I can do well on the main idea and craft and structure

The ATI practice Test A and B are VERY similar to the style and difficulty of the actual TEAS. I feel like that is your best bet. There are also private tutors specifically for the TEAS. How long before you take it again? What semester are you trying to apply for?

Specializes in CNA.

I’m taking the TEAS tomorrow morning at 8:30 guys. I’m freaking out. I only studied for 10 days. I feel like I’m not very prepared.

Goodluck! Just take a deep breath and do the best you can do!
