COLLIN COLLEGE FALL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey guys! Who here is applying for the fall 2020 term? Anyone else here unable to take the TEAS due to the cancellations? I signed up for two test dates, both of which were canceled. I see they've updated the process with alternatives put in place for those who were unable to take the TEAS. That being said, it's still super confusing since the admission process is points-based and a major part of the selection criteria is your TEAS scores. I hope this doesn't mean that those who were unable to take the TEAS are not going to be prioritized in the admissions process. ?

Hey guys, will anyone be attending the nursing information session today at 5:30? It’s my first time attending an info session and I have questions to ask.

Hey! Thanks for letting me know, I wasn’t even aware that they were gonna have one. I will be joining it as well. It says right now “ waiting for host to start this meeting”.

Were you able to access the zoom? It’s still showing up as “waiting for the host to start this meeting” on my end.

You are welcome. See you soon, I’ll be joining in a few minutes

Still says waiting for host to start meeting too. I want to try and refresh. Then I’ll give it 5 more minutes

I missed the information session. How was it? What was discussed?

Hi Guys!

Just curious, who has put in their application already? With what grades?

I have a B in all my sciences and a 79 on the TEAS. I'm hoping its enough to get in, but then again I have B's. Just curious what everyone else is going in on to see what my chances are!

I also already have an associates, so I am hoping that will bump my chances!

Good luck to everyone!

I put my application in a week ago and confirmed that they received all of my paperwork a few days ago. A few of my friends finished their applications as well.

As for my score, I have a 4.0 GPA with no retakes of classes (they deduct points for that), I scored an 88.7 on the TEAS, and I am a military veteran, and I have all the pre and corequisites completed (and extra application point) which means I have 16 of the possible 17 points.

I find it HIGHLY unlikely that anyone gets maximum points because obtaining a 96 on the TEAS is almost unheard of and they would have to also be a veteran to boot.

I have a few friends with identical application points (minus the military veteran point, so 15 total) that have applied as well but a few are Texas 2-Step so they are not in the general application pool.

If I was to wager a guess I would say the points of the applicants that are going to be accepted will range between 16-13 with the 13 point group being decided by the TEAS reading and science tie breaker.

Hi! Who did you email to confirm that the paperwork was received?

The campus opened June 1st for some faculty (I also was a student worker at Collin before I was laid off due to the pandemic and am still receiving staff emails) so I just called their office and spoke with the nursing secretary. She was able to confirm my paperwork had been received and was able to answer my BILLION neurotic questions LOL. God bless her patience.

Hahaha, I’m glad I’m not the only neurotic one here. I’m just paranoid that it may have been lost or misplaced during transit, so I need to confirm they received it for my own sanity.

Did you just call the nursing department number listed on the website? (972-548-6772). I have not been able to reach anyone on that number, it just directs me to a voicemail. Thank you and good luck to you!

Oh I tooootally understand that feeling. I'm so extra I created a cover letter, index, quadruple checked the forms, and put it in a report binder with color coded tabs, and then FedEx'd it with a tracking number. After all that I was still nervous that it would just vanish between the mail room at Collin and the nursing department LOL. The number that I called was (972) 548-6804. That put me in touch with the nursing secretary (I believe).

On a side note, what are your points looking like? I'm trying to get a feel for my fellow applicants because this was the first year with TEAS and the new points system.

LOL, I aspire to reach that level of extra. I was going to send it with priority mail and tracking, but my friend told me that I was being paranoid. But, now I honestly wish I had. And I also looked over my application obsessively before sending it out. I’m just an inherently paranoid person, so stuff like this makes me super anxious. ?

I have a 4.0 overall GPA, completed all of my prerequisites, corequisites, and general ED classes. But, I’m sure the points only account for your science classes, so I don’t think the extra classes have any impact. Unfortunately, my TEAS score was a 78. I studied for two weeks prior to the test, but my mistake was I fixated so much on studying for math, I completely neglected reviewing for science. So, 14 points in total. I’m trying to stay hopeful; it just ultimately depends on the other applicants applying. You have a solid score though! Good job!

The more applicants I get to know the more and more I realize a lot of us have the same personality type LOL. I think with 14 points you are good to go. I just have nothing to base my feelings off of though. I have heard so many wide ranging things about people who have been accepted that I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it all depends on the rest of the applicants.

I did the opposite of you for the TEAS. I studied so hard for the science and math that I completely neglected the language portion. By the time I realized how heavily weighted each question is on the Language section it was too late. I only missed THREE total questions in the Language portion and it dropped my score all the way down to a 79.2 for that section. That would be the one section I would tell someone to focus on. My overall TEAS scores were:

Overall: 88.7

Reading: 91.5

Math: 93.8

Science: 87.2

Language: 79.2

I missed 14 of the 150 questions which shows that they go by a weighted percent based off of a raw scores (136/150 is a 90.6%). The grading for the TEAS is definitely a bit wonkey because of their raw 600 point scale.

I have a question if anyone can answer it for me, I don't want to call and ask one of the advisors and seem like I'm bugging.

So I was looking over the selection criteria and see where points are deducted for retakes off A&P over the past 5 years. So I did A&P 1 in 2013 and A&P 2 in 2014, so by now they would be considered "expired" since it was over 5 years ago. But when I took them back then I made a C for both classes. Well I retook them in 2017 so that they wouldn't be expired anymore and made an A in both classes. Sooooo my question is, since I had to retake them anyways will I still get the points deducted or do yall think I am OK?? sorry if my question seems confusing. Just curious on where I would stand on the point system :)
