Collin College ADN SPRING 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Collin College Spring 2018 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am taking Micro this summer and plan on submitting my nursing application by the August deadline. I will be taking my PSB exam at the end of July.

Collin no longer gives potential students access to the point system used to rank students. Does anyone know what a competitive PSB score is?

I have a 3.75 for my co-requisites and I am hoping to maintain my 4.0 in my pre-requisites. Can anyone offer any insight on PSB scores?

Thanks in advance!

Maria

Sorry, I guess my source was incorrect. That will teach me to believe!

how many nurse hopefuls have already gotten their titters blood work?

During one of the many nursing info sessions I attended, students were advised to wait until acceptance had been determined in order to avoid unnecessary expenditures.

I have already had all mine done, reason being if Hep B comes back negative it is a long 6 month series and has to be completed before clinical participation. I am glad I did bc my Hep b was low and I am 1 shot away from being done now.

Mine are done because I work at a hospital. While it is wise to avoid unnecessary expenditures, if you end up needing your Hep B series, you will likely not have enough time to get the entire series done before January if you wait until you receive acceptance to begin. For adults the Hep B series is done at 0 months (the initial dose), 1 month and 6 months. So, if you need your Hep B and haven't got the first 2 doses already, then you're kinda screwed even if you get accepted. It's kind of a catch-22 - you don't want to spend the money unless you're sure you got in, but you need to make sure that you are good in time to start the program. Just a thought and my $.02, for what it's worth.

I had Hep B titter done two years ago, and I asked Cathleen whether results from 2 years ago would be acceptable and she said yes but now i am uncertain whether I should have titters done again

Also I emailed clinical coordinator to get a concrete answer. Spring nurses are starting clinical March/April from what I was advised which will leave enough time for series if it turns out it needs to be started again. As long as present proof that series has ensued you should be fine. In case anyone else was wondering. Don't panic

Good to know. I'm glad I have you to clear up all my comments! :roflmao: The info session I was at, she made it sound like it all had to be completed by January. We make a good team - I give half truths and you round it out with completely accurate info!

So the series will have to be complete by March/April?

I emailed the clinical coordinator to give her the run down of my situation and concerns regarding time line since I was told to wait on blood work. Ms Denny stated that clinicals for spring are not due to start until 7th or 8th week, March/April which gives a student enough time to start series if needed. Though i suggest you email her as well just to confirm and ensure that all your ducks are in a row. Her name is Michelle Denny

Hello y'all, another hopeful nursing student here. I applied for the Spring 2018 with Microbiology in progress. I was wondering when would they send letters for individuals with one their pre-reqs in progress at the time of application. Are there anyone taking one of the prereqs in progress? Thanks.

You should call and ask when notices are going out. And then tell us all what they say. I think I've called so much my number is probably on a do not answer list in the nursing dept. :rotfl:

So I called them and he informed me that letters were sent out last Wednesday evening and they likely wouldn't be processed til last Thursday and that we should be seeing them sometime this week. I think since today is a holiday, there isn't mail being delivered, so hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday!! Eeeek!! :)
