Hello everyone. I have been searching for a Collin College Nursing applicants for spring 2016 thread for weeks and I have not seen one so I figured I would start one my self: ) I will be turning in my application for the program this week and I wanted to share my story. I made A's in all my sciences. I made an A in English and a B in humanities, general psychology and life span psychology. I made a 6 on the PSB as well. I will be applying with 27 points because of the 3 B's I made in humanities and the psychology classes. Because I will only be applying with 27 points I am apprehensive about getting in. I have worked so hard and come so far for this moment, I will just have to give it to God. I've only taken my sciences once, which is good according to the nursing department as they are really factoring acceptance into the program based on taking your sciences once (they told me studies show those who take their sciences once and get an A the first time tend to do better in the program). However, I hope it's enough. I have children, I work full time and it took everything in me to get A's in my sciences and a 6 on the PSB. On the old point system I would be applying with 16 points (I know I need to get over it). I have been following the allnurses site for about a year and a half and I have had the opportunity to share in many wonderful experiences. Most of you that have posted had 4.0's and I've seen the joy you express when you get that acceptance and I am so happy for you all. I hope there is someone out there that applied and got in with similar applying factors and if so, wouldn't mind posting. I'd love to hear from anyone who will be applying or has applied for the Spring 2016 start and what your stats look like. Please do share. Best wishes to you all.
Thank you very much @mylife7! I kept making a 4/6 on the psb. I did take A&P I approx. 15 years ago so I needed to retake that class as well as Biology. I know letters won't go out for another month but I still get anxiety gathering my mail daily. Good luck to you, crossing my fingers we will all be classmates!
Theuberjc, I love your determination. I followed a girl on here about a year and 3 months ago and after she had applied 3 times she finally got in. I was so relieved and so excited for her. I am hoping the letters will still go out in mid September and that we can start the program together in the Spring. Please keep us all posted :)
Kristinka6, have you thought about applying at TWU? Since you have all those other classes I would recommend you apply there as well. I have one more class that I need to take in order to apply there, which I will be taking in the fall, it's my backup. If you don't mind me asking, how many points did you apply with the last 2 times and what did you make on the PSB's? What did the rejection letters say and when did you receive them. I apologize for all the questions. Please keep us posted (my apologies for repeating myself).
I kept making a 4/6 on the psb. This time I finally got a 6/6. I did take A&P I approx. 15 years ago so I needed to retake that class as well as Biology. I hope that doesn't count against me. I didn't apply at all during 2014 due to a very close family member battling cancer. She was very young so it took a major toll on all of us. I have taken Pathophysiology at TWU and luckily got an A. I need to take the TEAS-V test before applying.
Kristinka6, I am sorry to hear you had a family member battling cancer and I hope she is doing better. I was told the point system changed to allow 4.0 students who may not do very well on the PSB a better opportunity of getting in. Seeing how you are a 4.0 student and have now made a 6.0 on the PSB I believe you are very competitive. The only time repeating classes could have an impact on your chances is when they are taken within 5 years of each other, any older than that they don't consider it to be a repeat. This information is strictly based on what I've been told and information can change at anytime.
Hi msqtsmith :) I was told by a former nursing student whom just graduated in May, that the schedule is Monday - Thursday with class usually letting out around 2:30 or 3. On Clinical day it will be longer though. I hope that helps. I know 2 people in the program now. I just sent them a message so I will update my post once I hear back. I can't believe September is almost here! We will be getting our letters in no time :)
Lol, I hope it's sooner then than. Did you call and get that information from the receptionist? Last years, Spring applicants received their letters on September 28th (at least some did). I spoke with a Collin College LVN Bridge nursing student last week when I was at CareNow. She had been an LVN for 5 years and she got accepted into Collin's Nursing program in January. She informed me she applied with all B's in her science classes and she still got accepted...I hope that gives you some encouragement.
Sorry for the late post, here's the information I received from someone who just started the nursing program.
The first two weeks you go Mon-Thurs 8:30-4:30 with an hour lunch usually at 12:30. After that you go 8:30-3:30ish Monday and Thursday, and 8:30-1:30 on Tues and Wed. Clinical Starts for me October 17, and its on every Wed 7:00-4:00, while the other days remain the same I believe. They're good about giving you breaks here and there so it helps with the long hours. One thing you need to be is organized!!! There are a lot of due dates on random days of the week, and unfortunately at the beginning of the semester things don't work out so well with computers and schedules so you'll have to be sure to be flexible while keeping up with changes. Being organized is one major key to surviving and I've definitely been able to see it first hand after starting.

Hi! Thank you for the encouraging words! The 2 letters I got from applying to Spring 2015 and Fall 2015 were both "You did not get enough points to be competent for the program." Something like that. First time I applied I only had 26 points, the second time I had 28 points. After retaking Micro and A&P2 to get both As and retaking the PSB to get a 6, I now have 30 points. I know for sure that people who have a bachelor's degree are given much consideration. I can't remember for sure but I think I got my letter around mid-october. But I'm guessing, that was because it was a rejection letter.
