COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone. Does anyone have information on CMSV's regular BSN program? How hard is it to get in? Any current/former students want to share their experience with admissions/being in the program?

I'm glad you mentioned that about work. I keep reading that the school doesn't prepare you enough for the NCLEX and some teachers are more than challenging. More than what they need to be (which I don't mind-bring the challenge). My concern is that they prepare to be a nurse, at least the technical part. My husband really wants me to get there, but I have a hunch like I'm not completely convinced about it. And I constantly email them and no response. That makes me a bit worried and uncomfortable.

I will say when I was a freshman, I was a bio major with either nursing or PA in mind and after 2 science courses which were beginner level -- they were EXTREMELY difficult. My bio professor after 2 exams told me to rethink my major and so I did to psychology. But here I am years later reapplying. The program at mount is harder than other accelerated programs and has been around for a long time.

The lack of response is weird though maybe because of Covid-19??. But yes, my friends all got hired by Montefiore/ Presbyterian. One of my friends just transferred to Mount Sinai. Was that the only program you applied to?

Yes, I applied to Mercy, Pace, and NYU. Got accepted to Pace but their tuition is ridiculous but their facility is AMAZING. Mercy gave me the run around on a study abroad course I took so they dropped me. I got into CMSV and waiting to hear from NYU.

I have emailed them for over a month. They email me stating that the Summer semester would be moved to the fall and we have an issue paying for the enrollment deposit to please contact them but I have yet to hear from them. I've emailed the department, the director of the program, admissions, and yet not response...

Oh well CMSV has been around longer than Mercy College. My coworker just graduated Pace and got hired immediately after passing the exam! But I didn't apply because they wanted all the pre reqs done at the time of applying! NYU also is expensive too though. But thats weird I contacted ------------------------- about my apps and she responds within 3 days.

I have a question I’m thinking about applying to MSV regular BSN program. On the website it says the requirement is B- in pre req science courses. I got a C- in Human Anatomy 2. I retook it received an A. Do you think that will be accepted? Does anyone know how I get in contact with someone from admissions?

OK, that is very strange. I've been emailing her since April 7th. Maybe my emails are going to spam? This is very concerning. NYU is expensive but they give scholarships so is a definite plus

That is I emailed her directly this week and got a response. It's okay to follow up or CC admissions too. They are under a lot of stress transitioning to distant learning so I'm not sure if that might be the cause. As for NYU, thats true -- Goodluck with any program you choose to attend.

Thank you. I'll definitely will. This scares me. Thanks for the advice. Do you guys a specific email? Meaning you guys use a Google account right?

I'm not sure how the regular BSN program is ran but I know the accelerated program they focus on the retake grade if its higher. I got a C- in Microbiology and am retaking at CMSV, they told me it wouldn't be an issue. I'd contact them to make sure

@Jeff GI got accepted without completing the pre reqs but must complete it by august before classes start in the fall, but keep in my mind I did all the pre reqs before but its been over 5 years,my gp was quite above 3.5.The acceptance/offer letter bodly stated admission is pending successful completion of all the pre reqs and must have atleast a grade of B or better.

If you need any pre-requisites such as introduction to Chemistry, general Chemistry, or organic Chemistry, please let me know as my classes will meet your august deadline. Given your background, you should be able to get an "A" in my courses.

Oh OK thank you. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA and 3.8 at masters. I have worked 4 years in infectious disease at ny presbyterian hospital. I am taking A+P 2, Microbiology& Organic CHem at cmsv for the Summer. I contacted them, I'm just waiting for my payment to go thru for the Summer class to recieve a pending decision but if I get into cmsv, I am committing to it. They told me you need to prove that your signed up for the pre reqs first before getting a decision. I am terrified of organic Chemistry— I've taken Chemistry before and have gotten an F but I am taking it alone so hopefully I can manage a B.

I attended cmsv my freshman/sophomore year and the school itself is huge on nursing. All my friends that graduated from the program had no problem getting hired at prestigious hospitals in nyc. I hope to get in.

Let me know if you need any help in Organic Chemistry.
