Hi everyone. Does anyone have information on CMSV's regular BSN program? How hard is it to get in? Any current/former students want to share their experience with admissions/being in the program?

Any one here committing to Mount Saint Vincent?

Hello All,

I recently got accepted into the ABNS prog at CMSV Summer 2020 (riverdale campus)and I must finish the pre req prior to start.Am currently doing the pre req via portage learning.

wanted to find out how the program is run at cmsv,is it doable with a part/full time job?are lectures everyday and please what time of the day?where are the clinicals done?I just need all these info so I can begin requesting for a change of shift/schedule at my current job.

am taking the a&p1&2,mcb,and organic Chemistry but I have done these courses in the past so its not enirely new to me since I have a bachelors in physical therapy.

any advice/help will be appreciated.

did you get accepted before you completed your pre reqs? I am taking A&P 1 in the Spring (now) and have to take Organic chem and part 2 of A&P but I have to take it in the Summer--I wonder if they tell you if you're accepted before hand because CMSV is the only school that needs that organic chem class but like if they don't accept me beforehand then there would be no need to take orgo (I'm terrible in Chemistry).. Also do you mind sharing stats?? GPA etc.

If you need to take an Organic Chemistry course, please let me know as I teach one at a community college this Summer. It is entirely online. The tests/quizzes/final are open-book, open notes, and students are encouraged to work with others (such as tutors, teachers, etc.). Science education research has shown that this approach is superior to the traditional lecture/memorize/test approach as (a) students learn the material better, (b) retain the material longer, and (c) get higher grades.

I need to take that course. Would you be able to give more information? I’m currently at Lagcc

Sure! I teach Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 at North Central Missouri College. I have attached the syllabi for the two classes. We can do one or both courses during the Summer/fall/Spring--whatever is needed and I will accommodate your schedule.

Please note that the schedule of classes doesn't usually list these courses since I handle the enrollment and scheduling myself. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

@Jeff GI got accepted without completing the pre reqs but must complete it by august before classes start in the fall, but keep in my mind I did all the pre reqs before but its been over 5 years,my gp was quite above 3.5.The acceptance/offer letter bodly stated admission is pending successful completion of all the pre reqs and must have atleast a grade of B or better.

Oh OK thank you. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA and 3.8 at masters. I have worked 4 years in infectious disease at ny presbyterian hospital. I am taking A+P 2, Microbiology& Organic CHem at cmsv for the Summer. I contacted them, I'm just waiting for my payment to go thru for the Summer class to recieve a pending decision but if I get into cmsv, I am committing to it. They told me you need to prove that your signed up for the pre reqs first before getting a decision. I am terrified of organic Chemistry— I've taken Chemistry before and have gotten an F but I am taking it alone so hopefully I can manage a B.

I attended cmsv my freshman/sophomore year and the school itself is huge on nursing. All my friends that graduated from the program had no problem getting hired at prestigious hospitals in nyc. I hope to get in.

with everything you stated plus your work experience,am almost certain you will get in,I was offered the option of taking the pre reqs in their Summer school but because I currently work as a physical therapist so I chose portage which was also recommended by cmsv and its solely online and done at your pace and time,no one likes organic chem including me,managed to pass it years back and hopefully will get a B this time around,

yes you have to show proof of registration of those pre reqs, when I registered for all the courses with portage I was able to forward proof of registration of the courses before I got the official offer letter.

Hopefully will see you in fall,do you live in ny?I live in queens and work in the Bronx.

CONGRATS on your acceptance ! Yes, That makes total sense, honestly I think as long as you have the class-- it doesn't matter where its taken. I'm taking a+p 2 at my community college (WCC) though because its so much cheaper than at CMSV. But I have never heard of portage? I will actually check into it. I was looking for other options to take organic chem and micro since they're so expensive at CMSV but many schools require a year of general Chemistry to be able to take organic chem. I spoke with registration to expedite my loan process yesterday so that I can officially know if I'm accepted or not. They said it should be settled by the end of next week.

Hopefully I'll see you in the fall too. I live in Yonkers like 15 minutes from the school and work in Manhattan.

I'm glad you mentioned that about work. I keep reading that the school doesn't prepare you enough for the NCLEX and some teachers are more than challenging. More than what they need to be (which I don't mind-bring the challenge). My concern is that they prepare to be a nurse, at least the technical part. My husband really wants me to get there, but I have a hunch like I'm not completely convinced about it. And I constantly email them and no response. That makes me a bit worried and uncomfortable.
