ARRGGGHHHH. I just want to vent my frustration at dealing with the CNO. Has anyone found them to be difficult and on many occassions, incompetent? Not that I want to get into a long post about all the problems I've had with them (the list would be too long) but they really make me wonder at times. No wonder Ontario has a huge nursing shortage! I'm sure alot of it is to do with the lack of administrative professionalism and competence they have shown to me on many occasions. Since they are self regulating, they are accountable to no-one and this is certainly reflected in many of the experiences I've had with them. There should be some kind of government body overseeing them, not to mention somewhere you can lodge a complaint. Hopefully, one day, the provinces align and we will be federally regulated by a body that will be able to get their act together!

It's not just the CNO... they're all like that to a degree.

Actually, Ontario does not have a nursing shortage and if you think the CNO has not treated you fairly and has not honoured some aspect of the fair registration practice guideline http://www.cno.org/new/notices/NursingFairRegPracticesReport2008.html
then you can complain to the Ontario office of the fairness commissioner http://www.fairnesscommissioner.ca/en/

Far from a nursing shortage here in Ontario. Due to slashed funding there are plenty of nurses out of work.
It would be easier to comment on your experience with the CNO if we knew what it was. Best of luck with your situation.

I agree, there is no nursing shortage in Ontario for RN's or RPN's. I could see one coming maybe in 10 years or so, when the retirements start rolling in, but even then many come back casual. Who knows.

Looking at the OPs history, they are Australian and have been in ON for a couple of years. The main problem seems to be with their education meeting standards.
But the current employment situation shouldn't have been a surprize with newspapers, the internet, and TV news coverage.

Hello Vanessa,
I have recently experienced a very similar treatment from the CNO and was wondering if you were able to do anything about it (complaint, sue, denounce )

Yes, this thread has died a natural death 6 years ago. Much has changed...
Sue them for what? Protecting the public by requiring those they register as nurses to be educated, competent, safe and able to communicate with their patients? Doing what the government has mandated them to do?
