College of New Rochelle Accelerated Program

Published

Hi everyone!

I have been looking around the site for info on the College of New Rochelle Accelerated program and there doesn't seem to be too many people applying or in the program.

If anyone has any information about this program (how competitive it is, if it is any good, any other relevant info) it would be greatly appreciated! :)

i will be starting at cnr in january 08. it is a 2nd degree for me. anyone else starting this spring too?

january 09, congratulations!

Any one herd about the accelerated program yet?

I've got info on the accelerated program, so I hope this helps future applicants.

1. You need 61 credits total to get in - 15 elective credits included which can be from AP coursework (from college board)

2. It's rolling admissions where tentative acceptances are made after jan 25, then reconsidered after April. They send out conditional acceptances and final acceptances in april-these see for ppl that are in the process of completing their last classes but are practically in. In may the final letters are sent out.

3. School starts around the last week of June, so if you have to relocate it is possible to wait until July to start renting.

4. There are apartments/house shares availible in the neighborhood for around $600-800, with parking- I am opting to live with other students due to similar schudeles-so this is something to consider.

5. Tuition is 828/per credit @ 59 credits & cost of books - so your looking at atleast 49,500. Plus the cost of housing and living -11k to 13k minimum. So your in debt 60k in a year and a half. For this I suggest planning early. I worked like mad for the past 8 months to offset housing and living expense.

6. When you send in info, call to make sure they got it- there very good with this, but you may have missed something minor the review board will deny you on, so it's worth the 2nd check.

7. There are only 24 seats for this program, people progress though In one group if there are 24 students- which is often not the case as ppl drop or do not qualify. So what ends up happening is your still in the accelerated program in class with the regular paced people.

8. Anyone has something to add?

Hii..I was wondering if someone could give me advice about CNRs program.

I applied to the accelerated program. My overall GPA is 3.3 CNR is the school that I want to attend after graduating May 2009 and moving back home. I have 2 years experience working as an aide, and I have volunteered as doula. I will finish my last prerequisite which is nutrition in May at the end of the semester. My grades for the prerequisites are ok. I have:

AP1: C+

AP2: B+

Micro:C+,

Chem:B

Nutrition:B+

Psyc:A

Psyc:B-

Soc:B+

Stat:A-

Trig:A

And I have A's in everything else that they listed. I am very worried because my grades are not strong as I would like them to be. I feel that my biggest asset right now is my work and volunteer experience in undergrad. Can someone in the CNR program please give me some advice??

MsLotus, call the school tomorrow. No one could give you a better idea of your chances like they could. Last time I spoke to the Dean she said the class was not full, so there are some seats left and there main goal is to fill them so you have a chance. Call!

What are the prereqs for this program?

I read on their website that the only prereqs are Micro and Statistics. That's it? No A&P? Wow.

Paco386,

They also require intro to computers and developmental psych- that's how they get ya....

Intro to computers...I saw that...My school doesnt even have a computer intro class...I have my fingers crossed though..

MsLoutus,

The school I was taking classes at had it, but I could not get in. I thought CNR would not notice but I was talking to admissions about the cost of the accelerated program and they stopped the convo and told me that I must take it inorder to get in. So during winter break I took in online and got it done. So call them, I think as long as you get it done before June 29, they don't care, but you must prove that you are enrolled in the class at the time your file is being reviewed inorder to get an acceptance. Plus if you take it at CNR it's 2-3credits @828.00... Look for a college with online classes offering a short first summer session and knock it out for much cheaper!

If you ask me, Intro to Computers sounds like a very weird prereq for a nursing program. You would think there would be a test to exempt experienced students from this requirement in this day and age!

Paco386,

Intro to computers was an odd requirement, I don't remember anything I learned. I guess since most hospital systems are computerized this is to help us...you took it already and found it helpful?

Specializes in L&D/postpartum.

I didn't end up going to CNR, but I did go to an info session for the accelerated program a couple years ago and asked about the computer requirement. It's complete nonsense in this day and age considering that most college courses involve computers on a regular basis. I do recall them saying that you could test out of it, but I'd call them up and check just to be sure.
