Hi everyone!
I have been looking around the site for info on the College of New Rochelle Accelerated program and there doesn't seem to be too many people applying or in the program.
If anyone has any information about this program (how competitive it is, if it is any good, any other relevant info) it would be greatly appreciated! :)
Hey GT,
You are right...The fact that the individuals that are applying already possess a degree will work in their favor. In undergrad you make mistakes and you learn how to correct them in order to succeed. Nursing is not easy, I don't expect anything as rewarding to be cupcake. I wish everyone the best...I feel like right now is a very critical period for most of us that are waiting...
Mz A,I've decided to go nude, just kidding....what happened at CNR-is it with a few administrators or widespread? I'm very nervous about these comments, but if it's as bad as my undergrad I won't be surprised. The plan is to get in and out quickly, with a new degree. The other person I spoke to (who is a RN now) said to be prepared and don't expect to be handheld. I think that as long as they are not completly insolent/or evil I will be okay...hopefully. There only 13 people in the accelerated program...wonder what happened to the 25?
1. Has your treatment at CNR changed your want to be a nurse?
2. With all things considered, if you had to do it all over again and CNR was the only school you were accepted, would you have still gone or just reapplied to a different school?
The problem with the lack of organization is widespread with administration...from the registrar to financial aid to some of the professors. Mind you...my first degree was from a very, very large research university, so I may have been spoiled by the structure and resources available there. The problems at CNR haven't changed my desire to become a nurse. They have just caused a lot of frustration. If CNR was the only school I was accepted, then I guess I would have still matriculated there due to my own personal need to be in and out quickly. Otherwise, I would have applied to other schools.
Mz A,Your first semester just finished-how did you do-ok? I know you were registering for summer so what clases are you taking? I'd like to bump into you-in a non stalking way. I'm in NUR 107/207, 209, 212L.
It went well...GPA is around 3.4. Can't give you the exact GPA because of course there was a mix up with one of my grades and I haven't received the corrected grade as of yet.
Hi GT,I see you have your classes, that is great. I was also reading what Robert08 said and Ms. A. My goodness that hit home when I read it. To think after reading that about equipment and the carpet I was wondering what was next. So I took Robert08 advice and sent Connie a short note..... Two questions only......One was what is the percentage, and the other was pertaining to the usage of equipment whether it is 2 to 1 or 4 to 1 or even 6 to 1. I never received a response from her.
I still have'nt received my letter and they were suppose to have went out this week.
Ms. A.
Are you glad the first semester is over and when do you start your clinicals. Also do you think what they have taught you so far is relevant enough for you to enter your clinicals.
Robert08,
Thanks for all of the Great Information, where are you in the program as of today..........Did you start your clinicals?
Ms. Kwanee,
Did you hear anything yet? Also, is there any other students on the board who will be attending the fall 09.
Thanks
BB, I'll be glad when it is all over :). Clinicals started this past semester...we were assigned to long term care facilities.
Ms. A, GT, and Ms. L,
It's great to see that we all have been communicating and getting along well. I appreciate all the insight and information regarding the college of New Rochelle.
If I receive a rejection letter I will apply somewhere else or continue my Masters Degree, but to be truthful, I really want to challenge Nursing.
Ms. A
What are some of the things you are doing in your clinicals at the LTC Nursing Facility. Were you afraid when you first got there and had to perform on your own..........Please Share:twocents:
Ms. GT
You express yourself in a way that shows you are very intellectual and have the ability to succeed in anything you choose or put your all into. I don't see you as having a problem in Nursing..............
Ms. L
I believe you will be accepted, if anyone is not going to be accepted it may be me........... the reason I say that is because most of my prerequisites came from a Technical School and I received an A in the majority of those courses whether they accept them is up to the college. The last college I attended accepted the courses as transfer credits.................My fingers are truly crossed.
BB,
I'm sure that you will get good news from CNR. They look at the complete person, not the school they went to or just their gpa. Waiting for the letter to come is the most stressful thing, I drove everyone in my family nuts with constant mailbox updates. In your worst scenario you end up with a masters in special ed-that's not too shabby! Take it from me, the letter will come, it will be an acceptance (you, Ms.L and kwanee), and you will feel crazy for worrying-and this tread will be here to remind you of that LOL. Call and see if they shipped out the letters as yet-carmen usually knows. It will take about 3 days for it to get to you. Make sure your financial aid is lined up.
Ohh, so inorder for us to see the classes available you get a packet with the listings, online or at locations throughout the school. There really is no online registration...and the bursar, financial aid, and registrar office are all in one shared space. Fall payment is due by 8/15, and everytime I go there they remind me. For us allergy suffers, the campus is nothing but trees and grass.
MzA,
I'm originally from NYC, but I went to school upstate NY. Just by visiting schools after finishing my undergrad this month, I have realized that most of the schools in the city and even New Rochelle are not as organized or updated. I can see where being provided with resources to being frustrated about resources could be a transition that will take a while to get use to.. Good Luck..you are almost there..
BB,
I don't think that they decide based on whether or not you attended a technical college. Its a excellent thing that you ACED all of your classes, if anything that will work in favor of you. I really don't think that they discriminate though. I know people that did their prerequisites at universities where they had to fulfill extra activities for science classes that individuals that took their prerequisites at comm. colleges did not have to do, and it reflected in their final grades..but everything is up to the admissions committee..keep your fingers crossed..
Ms. L,
I start on June 29th for 18 months. But since the accelerated program is not full, I will be taking classes with you guys in the fall like pharm, the only difference is that they make us take summer classes, where as those in the individualized track don't have to. There are no winter classes, which is odd. I'll be seeing you guys in the fall!

When I spoke to Ms. G while I was applying, she informed me that of the 22 people in the accelerated program the last couple years, only 14-16 people actually complete it. She made it clear that it would be difficult, and that we should expect to give up sleep and our social lives.
I think that since all of us are second degrees, we have a more realistic expectation of what we can do, and what a school should do for us. I have a friend attending Nassau community college for nursing, paying 2K a semester and she says that they are supportive and have good equipment and great rotations. She also said that in her class-of people over 26 and with prior degrees, of the 40 that started only 16 remain-2left because they had babies. So, I really appreciate all the warnings, but I think every nursing program is hard and has it's own b.s to deal with. All of us will make great nurses, if not for the fact that we are smart, then because we will make it through this program that forces us to work under stress.
