Wondering if anyone has taken the college level math requirement through RIO? Never taken a math course online and wanted to see what the work load is like. Thanks.

I have. For me math is easy and I can self teach so it wasn't hard.
Work load isn't to bad. I had Hw for each section of a chapter and then a chapter quiz. You had to pass the chapter quiz with a certain score to be able to move onto the next chapter. All this was done on a website called my math lab. I had to go in to a testing center for my mid term and final.
Ok so I have been thinking that since it is RIO they are going to put a lot of extra work into it. But I couldn't figure out how they'd do it. Most of their courses consist of excessive writing/essays. Glad to hear it was manageable.
Yeah to me their math doesn't have anything extra. You learn the math and get tested on it.
You don't really need the book unless you want to use it for more examples. For the hw there an option you can click to have them walk you through on how to solve. If that doesn't help I found Google and YouTube helpful.
Good luck. I believe you will be successful.
Ps. I also took statistics with Rio instead of paying for the ASU class. Saved me lots of money and that is due able too.

I actually thought the My Math Lab quizzes were harder than the midterm or final. The midterm and final were both multiple choice, so there were a few times that I got an answer that wasn't listed so I knew I had to go back and do something different. My teacher wasn't concerned about deadlines for at home testing. The only rule was to have all at home tests submitted before the midterm or final. It gave me a little more flexibility in getting things done.

Were both the midterm and final proctored?
Yes they were.

I'm not a fan of math because I find it an incredibly boring subject. With that said, I have taken two course in math at Rio and to tell you the truth it was the ONLY way that allowed me to pass math class (with an A & B too). I attempted sitting in a physical classroom at GCC to take a class and nearly fell out of my chair dying of boredom in the class, just was unable to concentrate. They never collected our assignments, so I never did it, and our grades were strictly based on a few tests, needless to say that ship went down quick & I had to withdraw. At Rio, you're forced to teach yourself to understand the concepts because of the quizzes. Rio allowed me to get the best math grades I had gotten in years. Good luck!

I just took it through Rio last semester. I actually enjoyed it. Yes, both midterm and final are proctored. Like someone else mentioned, they are multiple choice (that was a nice surprise because none of the quiz's are). They are separately cumulative. The midterm exam is everything you've learned up to that point, and then the final exam is cumulative from the midterm point through to the end of the course. There are practice exams of 60 questions for the midterm/final, and if you study those 60 questions you'll do fine. Practice 20 questions at a time: do the first 20 questions, then submit. Then go through all the ones you missed, and correct, and learn how to do it (sometimes it just takes a refresher). Then study the next 20, then the next 20. The midterm and final are only 30 questions each. And yes, I agree with the other student that said the quiz's are harder than the midterm/final. Totally true. I got a very high A and am looking forward to taking statistics through Rio in a few weeks! edit to add: Oh - I should have also said that the program they use for the "homework" and quiz's is really good. You do not have to submit any homework (I did ALL the homework) but if you study it you'll do well on the quiz so of course do it. The majority of the homework problems will walk you through step by step if you do not understand how to do it. Personally, I enjoyed using the textbook along with the online component. I am 38 and hadn't taken college math since I was 18. I really needed a refresher - so if you're not good at math or haven't been in a math mindset for a while then definitely get the textbook as well.
Thanks so much for the info!
I'm so confused with why I even have to take this class. I've heard that it's easier than all of my precious math classes and I already took statistics!
GL to you in STATS! I took that at EMCC a couple of years ago and if it wasn't for having to work in a group for the whole semester, a really horrible group with two boys who never showed up to class , I would've loved the class, very neat once you get the hang of it. I never missed a lecture and I recommend that you don't either :)) as everything builds upon itself. I got an A, very doable but I don't think I would've had I missed a class.

Have you taken any math higher than 140? If so, then you are good to go. If you took math below a 140 level, I doubt it is easier. I took Math 120 previously (years and years ago because it was the least required for nursing), and it was definitely easier than 140.

Took Intermediate college algebra on-line at CGCC. I like it the teacher was ALWAYS there for us and answered most of the questions.
It all depends on the class and the teacher. Some just don't give a crap about the students (very low percentage) and others are GREAT.
I have taken several so I am not speaking out of the side of my face.
The hardest one was chem 130.
The thing with on-line is making time for YOURSELF and DISCIPLINE.
You're basically teaching yourself, but the on-line resources are limitless and YOUTUBE and KAHN Academy are AWESOME!
Good Luck
