College of Mainland in Texas City

Has anyone applied for College of Mainland nursing program for Fall 2015?

That's great can you give us a little info about the program..any advice on how to be successful?

Quick question: do you need to turn in both the shot records and titers or just a shot record?

Sure. I started in the spring so our program is a little condensed as far as time and curricula. (Possibly a little more stressful.. Lol😉) Health assessment is 8 weeks and you also have skills at the same time which is the full 16. After 8 weeks you start clinical. It goes by SUPER fast. You HAVE TO keep up or you will fall behind. Exams are NCLEX style which take time to get used to. Like I said there's a learning curve. It takes time to get in the swing of things. You have to study. If you were ever the type that didn't (I was) it will hit you hard. Nursing school is completely different from regular courses. It can get intense. There's a lot of content. It's not as bad as everyone makes it seem. Once you get the hang of it, it's ok. Organization is crucial!

If you have both bring both.

@KALFRN yes you need to turn in proof of shots and titers

@e16nurse I wasn't able to get on the list for health assessment before it closed. Do you think this will make my load alot harder in the 1st semester? I really appreciate you answering my questions

No. Our whole class took both health assessment and skills at the same time 😊

@KALFRN yes you need to turn in proof of shots and titers

Ok thank you. I know they have titers for MMR and Hep B but do they have ones for Tdap and TB? Sorry never done the titers on those before.

@e16nurse thank you for your insight and be willing to answer questions ! What do you enjoy most about the program? Did you apply to other programs and if so what made you chose COM over the others?

@KALFRN I believe the Tdap is good for 10 years so if it hasn't been 10 years then I would give another or if you don't have proof get another. The TB skin test is given one day and you have to go back with in 72 hours or so to have it read. Were you able to get on the list to take Health Assessment in the summer?

@forshia ok thank you. Yes my Tdap just reached over 10years so I got another last week along with my TB. So I'm assuming the hep b and MMR titers needed? And no unfortunately I didn't get to sign up for the health assessment class but sure wish I could've. I know the first semester is tough so anything that would help make it easier would be good.

Honestly, just knowing that I'm a day closer to the end makes me happy. I just want to be an RN already 😁. I have a family and being in school can def get in the way at times. I chose COM because of the proximity to my home. Didn't want to go to Houston so I decided to go south.
