Has anyone had any experience attending Nursing school at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas? I have looked at thier pass rates with the state. How is the program there? Any advice on application/ acceptence?

well i have heard some pretty good things from a few folks who went through the com program and are now either getting there bsn from utmb or are working RNs in the houston area, but i dont really have any points of reference for comparison sorry, im still kinda new down here. However I am sure i will be in the com nursing program and i am pretty awesome, so thats a bright spot i guess.

It is good to know im not gonna be behind by being the health assessment class this semester so thank you very much for that.

Thanks for all the information folks.

bdorsey- I've heard that the pharmacology class at Com is the most difficult in the program. It's in the second semester. Have you asked the nursing department if they'll take the pharm class you took at San Jac? I really wanted to take Pharm in the summer but College of the Mainland won't take the transfered class unless it's 3 lecture hours and 1 lab hour. I sent them the class syllabus from each school and they each got shot down because they didn't have the correct number of lecture/ lab hours. Does anyone know of a college that offers a transferrable pharmacology class for Com?

Hi everyone, first and foremost, congratulations to all of you who got into the program! :)

I'm applying for the Spring 2011 semester ADN program. Like some others on here, I also have another degree, a B.S. in Psychology and was accepted into an accelerated BSN program before but was dismissed after getting a D in one class. I spoke with someone from the nursing department this morning and they said I had a really good chance at making it into the program based on all the classes I've already taken so I'm hoping for the best!

Just wondering, for those who were trying to reach the healthcare advisor, did you just go to the school and request to see her? Or did you call in advance to make an appointment? I ask because I called earlier to make an appointment but never heard back so I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to just go to the school. The only thing is I live on the southside of Houston and don't want to drive all the way there just for them to tell me to make an appointment and come back.

Any suggestions guys? Thanks in advance!

@kstar101- I found that emailing the advisor was the best way to communicate with her. Definitely request to make an appt, there are usually people waiting outside her door. I had an appt but let her finish up with the people who were ahead of me waiting since I wasn't in a rush. Best of luck!

tine14: thanks for your reply! she called me back early this morning and had an appointment available earlier today so I got everything done. i pretty much spent all afternoon so now it's just a waiting game until september. thanks again!!

Hello everyone..

@kstar101..hi..

I was wondering how was your classes as an accelerated student? Was it a manageable one or were you having an outright trouble in getting along? Was it a 50% online and 50% on site? Where did you do it?

Please let me know.

Thanks

@skygirl..what are you doing here girl! I wondered where you disappeared? So did you get accepted to COM? Write to me!

Take care.

Alluring- After applying to UTHSC, UTMB, COM and San Jac I have finally found a home. : ) I got accepted into COM! Which nursing school did you decide on?

I'm starting the nursing school deadlines today. I'm going to get my titer, background check and statment completed today. Has anyone finished all of the deadlines? Also, about the flu shot, do we really need to get it? It's not flu season and I don't know of a clinic in town that offers it out of season. Anyone have any luck with that?

Ohh ..congrats on getting into COM. How far is it for you? What have you arranged on that part?

So do you have to do another background check for this college? Thats hard. Coz you did one for Sjc too right?

Does COM require you to do your Hesi exam b4 the classes start? Lot of stuff do aint it? Do you have your CPR?

Well I had only applied to Sjc. I have 3 children. Ony one goes to school. The other 2 are small. So I just couldnt think about any options for sending them off to daycare. And also considering the distance, I couldnt help it. And I dont think we are going to hear from Sjc up until the 19th. Thats the situation as of now.

Thinking of getting the shots ready..whether accepted or not.

Congrats and Good Luck. Keep in touch.

@skygirl,

Got accepted into Sanjac. Deadline for replying is the 19th as you know. I have already replied.

Doing the immunztn stuff. Lots of it. But here we go!

Alluring- Congrats!!!

San Jac sent me an email a couple of weeks ago saying that I couldn't apply because I didn't take my Eng 1 at San Jac. I took Eng 2, along with 118 other hours at San Jac but they would only take Comp 2 or that Engl technical writing class under option B. Luckily, precheck let me transfer my background results from San Jac to Com for free! Good luck to you!!!

I have finished all of the deadlines but Cpr. I'm planning on taking it this Saturday.

Hey guys, I recently bought some older edition nursing textbooks off the internet but just found out I received a scholarship that will cover my books purchased from the bookstore. Anyway, I bought 6 textbooks for the 1st semester and am now looking to sell them at extremely reasonable prices. They range from $5-$15 per book. If anyone is interested you can PM me and let me know.

Yes they took my pharm class from San Jac. At least they added it to my ed plan and they didn't specifically say that I needed to retake it. I hope not!!!
