Has anyone had any experience attending Nursing school at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas? I have looked at thier pass rates with the state. How is the program there? Any advice on application/ acceptence?

Got my acceptance letter this week as well =)

Congrats Tine14:yeah:

@michelle2841 Thanks!

@skygyrl Added you as a friend, hope you don't mind!

p.s. saw you in the other thread for SJC... I really wish they had sent out acceptance/denial emails by now b/c that was my other choice. I just called COM to see if I could extend the deadline to accept and they said no. I'm a little torn.

Tine14- You can always accept and then switch at the last minute. I'm sure it's not the proper way to do things but it will make an alternate applicant very happy either way! It looks like San Jac's fall 2009 applicants found out the last week of June so we don't have too much longer. I read some of your past posts and we have alot in common. I also applied to two Universities and was unfortunately rejected due to my past withdrawl record. San Jac and Com were my back up choices. I'm definitely happy to get into one of these competetive programs. I'm currently enrolled in my first semester at Com, which involves one RN class, and I've got to say Com has really great teachers in the nursing department and the program seems like it will be pretty good. I'm really looking forward to attending College of the Mainland's nursing program

Michelle-Thank you so much! I'm very excited!! I see you got into Utmb. Congrats!!! Did you also get accepted into Com??

@skygyrl: Thanks for sharing about COM. I don't know anyone who currently goes there. The reason why I was leaning towards SJC was b/c that is where I completed my pre-reqs and I'm quite familiar with them. Knowing that COM has a great team in place is reassuring, no doubt. Who knows, maybe we'll end up at the same school after all! :)

@skygyrl, COM called me about 3 weeks ago and I told them I was already accepted to UTMB so they could withdrawal my application. Good luck to everyone going to COM. I received my associates from there and I absolutely love the school and the staff. They are very down to earth and want you to succeed in life and will help you do so. COM was my second choice if I didn't get into UTMB. I live right across the street from San Jac Central and I would drive to COM instead.

I'm really starting to feel the same way about Com. I have a few family memebers who went to different nursing schools and it's seems quite hard to come across such friendly and caring instructors like Com has. I think I will definitely choose Com over San Jac's nursing program. However, San Jac offers that great hybrid program so that might be the only thing that would sway my decision. But me actually getting into the San Jac nursing hybrid program, very slim chance. So I'm definitely planning and preparing to attend Com's nursing program.

hey everyone, i will be attending com's RN program this fall as well, its good to hear some nice reviews because im kinda new to texas and going into this whole nursing thing blind. Quick question will anyone else be taking the health assesment class this fall or will i be the only person actually in the program who has not taken this course yet? anyways congrats to all

cheers,

brandon

Hey,

I got accepted into COM for the fall and I am torn between COM and HCC. If I decide to go with COM which is closer to my home/job I will be in the health assessment class in the fall with you. Do you know anyone currently in the program or have you heard any reviews about the program? The only thing that has me considering HCC is the evening program that is offered.

I'm currently in the Health Assessment class. They offer it in the summer for the Lvn-Rn transition students and allow any left over spaces to be filled by pre-nursing students. There are about 7 pre-nursing students in the class and of the 7 I believe only one other person and myself got into the program. Which means pretty much everyone will be taking health assessment in the fall semester so you are not behind. I really like the nursing instructors. They are very encouraging. I would highly recommend Com. Did you get into the evening program at Hcc or are you still waiting to find out?

I've talked to a few people in the fast track program who are in their 2nd semester and they all really like Com. One of the girls said they lost 2 or 3 students so far but I think that's typical of any nursing program. Good luck with your decision!

Hey!

Yes I actually got accepted last semester into HCC but dropped their Pharm because it was horrific! I took Pharm at San Jac and upon entering this fall I have to take HCC Pharm Math test before August. I'm taking it 7/14. I compared the curriculum for the two schools and the classes are different. I see that HCC offers an NCLEX specific class your last semester. I've heard bad/good things about HCC and I have only heard about COM from you and I'm glad its good. My friend was like go with the school that looks the best on your resume and I was like they are both accredited and I don't think that matters as much what matters is that I pass the NCLEX!! I don't think the professors at HCC are student friendly and I didn't like the team teaching in Pharm. I am 90% sure that I will see you this fall at COM. Thanks for the response!
