Hello all,
I am applying this summer for Spring 2011 admissions for COC. I know they choose their students based on 2 criteria. i wanted to know for those students who have been accepted, what were your stats. Do you have a prior degree? What was your GPA for your undergrad, and for your pre-reqs? Have you worked in a hospital? Their application has a section where you can mark off if you were a first generation college student, if you had emotional circumstances or economic challenges. How will that affect the applicant?
I know this other question should go under a different topic, but what is their nursing program like? i tried searching the classes for each semester to simulate what their class/clinical schedule would be like but I got confused with the "short term" classes and the different lectures for each class. Could anyone tell me what a typical week is for a nursing student at COC? where clinicals are practiced? When I was getting my training at COC for CNA we did Henry Mayo hospice.
Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions but i really want to get a picture of the future, lol. I'm getting old and wish to get my new career going. I've got a degree in Biology from MSMC that has really gotten me no where, and since I've always been interested in medicine and have had some experience as a CNA I think nursing is a great choice. I've spoken to my friends who graduated with me but they got their degree in Nursing, and they just love what they do. they have given me real facts on the pros and cons and this seems like the right move. Thank you for your imput. :-)
Hey all-
I was also selected as an alternate. Does anyone have any information on how it works? Say if I don't get in for the Spring (worst case scenario!) does that mean I will be put in for the following class?? There is nothing on their website about it, and I am so anxious to find out what the deal is. I am sure they will cover it at the orientation on the 15th... but I don't know if I can wait that long hehe.
VJPaul, yes I've done what you suggested, but if you actually look at the schedule for a course number (lets say nurs 110) and you get different sections of that course number, within each section there are different times and different days, and when I try to align the days with the time and such they over lap. it's really confusing, someone had told me there were clinicals available on weekends, but I don't see any there, so i guess I'll have to wait for the orientation and see what they say. and congratulations by the way.
five10fvr, yes I know what you mean. I think they won't know how many people they will take in until people who got accepted start to decline the offer. What they should be able to tell you though is what number you are on the alternate list. Hopefully on orientation you can get your question answered.
Hi! I just got my acceptance email for COC!
My stats were:
BS-Business Administration
Pre-req: 4.0
Cum GPA: 3.84
TEAS: 92%
CNA licence, EKG Monitor Tech cert, Hospital Unit Secretary cert, Medical Terminology cert
3 years hospital volunteer, 1 year dialysis facility volunteer
For me, I'm waiting to hear a decision from Uni. Colorado for their Accelerated BSN program, as that school is my #1 choice. I should know by Monday or Tuesday. So, for those who got the email saying they were chosen as an alternate: keep your head up! There are probably other people who are in the same boat as I am.

I sincerely hope you get in to U of Colorado!! Good luck to you :)
mrmandap-Congrats and good luck regarding Uni Colorado.
What dialysis unit did you work at? I am a dialysis tech and have currently worked for the local nephrologist for 13 years.
EllieBean13-I emailed them back and they said they can not give any more information regarding the alternatives.

Darn! Well, I guess they will respond to my email the same way hehe. In the off chance they DO give me more information, I'll be sure to pass it on.

Congrats to vjpaul, your friend and bpmonkey
I sure hope I am with you guys starting next spring.
I tried contacting the school to ask how many people they selected as possible alternative if a seat becomes available. They just didnt give me a straight answer. All i was wondering is it 25 other people I am still competing with or 5.
