College of the Canyons Stats

Published

Hello all,

I am applying this summer for Spring 2011 admissions for COC. I know they choose their students based on 2 criteria. i wanted to know for those students who have been accepted, what were your stats. Do you have a prior degree? What was your GPA for your undergrad, and for your pre-reqs? Have you worked in a hospital? Their application has a section where you can mark off if you were a first generation college student, if you had emotional circumstances or economic challenges. How will that affect the applicant?

I know this other question should go under a different topic, but what is their nursing program like? i tried searching the classes for each semester to simulate what their class/clinical schedule would be like but I got confused with the "short term" classes and the different lectures for each class. Could anyone tell me what a typical week is for a nursing student at COC? where clinicals are practiced? When I was getting my training at COC for CNA we did Henry Mayo hospice.

Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions but i really want to get a picture of the future, lol. I'm getting old and wish to get my new career going. I've got a degree in Biology from MSMC that has really gotten me no where, and since I've always been interested in medicine and have had some experience as a CNA I think nursing is a great choice. I've spoken to my friends who graduated with me but they got their degree in Nursing, and they just love what they do. they have given me real facts on the pros and cons and this seems like the right move. Thank you for your imput. :-)

hey, you can now check the result.

I got an 82%, lol, good enough for me. Even if COC doesn't take me i got my spot at AVC and since their requirement is a 75 for the TEAS, I'm good. So, now it's Gods will.

congratulations! i only got 81.2% huhuhu... my science was really terrible, i only got 73.5%.

You did better on the science than I did, it was my worst score, lol, it was really high school science, not in debt stuff like in college, reminded me so much of physics class yuck!...lol...and math i got like 75, and english like 88 and reading like 96. But congratulations to you as well, we both did good :-) Now to wait for the first week of October. lol

english was 74.5, reading 77.5 and math 100... probably if not because of my math, my grades were really low

I also took the TEAS last Friday. I got a 82.9% I know they said we will know first week of October but I was wondering if anyone has found out if they got in the program yet. I am so impatient.

Don't worry I'm sure some people will not accept and you'll get in, I know when I was taking the test the lady next to me was applying to like 2 other schools, and had a sceduled test for the TEAS for one of those schools so you've got a good chance of getting in. By the way, have you looked at their class/clinical schedule? I'm so confused when I go online and try to figure it out.

I sure hope I get in. I have been working on my pre reqs for years now, a class or two at a time.

I have taken all my pre reqs at COC and I am still a little confused on their nursing program schedule.

I am guessing like any other class you have different options of section numbers with some of the classes on different days of the week. I guess we will learn more in a few weeks.

I also got in as did a friend of mine :D I also heard that quite a few alternates get in as people choose different schools. Anyone else taking the TEAS version 5 for LA County?

check out the website for COC RN program at: http://www.canyons.edu/departments/NS/ you can also look at nursing classes by going to www.canyons.edu and clicking on class schedule on the left then select nursing classes
