College of the Canyons Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

This might be a little too early for a thread like this, but I submitted my online application for the spring at COC and I'm so anxious yet excited!

Anyone else here already go ahead and do that? What's everyone's stats who's applying?

I have been studying for the TEAS since May, and it feels so real now that my application is in!

lets get this thread going :)

Sounds like you are making the vest decision! Just to clarify, COC is only 5 days a week for the first 8 weeks. Then drops to 4 for the rest of the 8 week semester. 2nd and 3rd semester are 3 days/week (this includes one 12 hour) and then 4th semester is one day lecture and one day clinical. Just want to let everyone know so you didnt think it was 5 days a week all the time.

Thank you! I had to weigh everything between pass rates and the commute and time I would be able to work when I made my decision. Even those first 8 weeks of having to be out of work like that would cost me my apartment or car ):

Can someone tell me when I would finish if I did the BSN bridge but I already have a BS degree?

from what i was told by my counselor it would take you 3 years. Everyone that gets into the bridge has all of their general education done i think. So even if you have a BS i think it would still be 3 years.

they will be discussing all of this at the orientation :)

There is a very, very happy alternate right now. =) Good luck all!!

how is the first semester going? any advice for all of us starting this spring?

So we should be able to access the orientation materials on blackboard today right?

I was just wondering because at pierce it's only 2 years if you have a degree already. 3 years seems like a long time.

Did you end up hearing back from Pierce yet?

I hear back next week. But I went to the information session a few months back for the collaborative program and they said at most it would be 2.5 years but if you have a degree it should be 2 years to get your BSN. I was hoping coc would be the same.

Sometime today, yes.

Hello all,

Joined in an on the excitement kind of late, but I read pretty much all the comments; congrats to all who got accepted for Spring 2016!! I did as well, and I'm so happy!! I cant believe I'm finally going to start the program. I just sent my RSVP for November 6. Anyone here know someone who is currently in the program, or who can answer the following questions:

1) Are people able to manage working part time and doing this program?

2) Are the any scholarships that are offered?

3) Who is the toughest professor in the program, and what can I do to excel in that class?

4) Is there a facebook for our future cohort, etc?

Too many things to ask....I'm so excited and so nervous. I've heard nursing school is so hard. I know I'm getting ahead of myself.

Wait, are you referring to the CSUN-COC cohort?

I guess it does take 2.5 years, but you are taking classes at the same time as COC in between summers and some in the fall and others when you see fit. So if you follow CSUN's timeline and take your upper divisions you will graduate about half a year later, after graduating from COC.

I'm in the current cohort and followed the timeline to a T. I just have Spring and Summer semester and then I'm done and get my BSN.

PS. Some students choose to not follow the timeline because they feel that they could not take any extra classes during the COC core nurses program. And I'll say to you that it is all doable. I just took all the extra upper GE's online because my commute is about an hour and didn't want drive there. Plus I worked 20-25 hours a week. Anything is doable.

PPS if you already have a degree and the units transfer you don't have to take the 9 upper GE units or the extra 5 units needed to reach the required 120 units to graduate. But you will have to take all the core BSN classes and one clinical rotation, which is at the same time as the non-degree students so the timeline is the same.

Do you know what the requirements are to apply to the COC CSUN bridge program? and what is considered a strong candidate?
